All this is based off of Meltus Audio Hack that was first shown in the XDA forums. Instead of having to flash anything, just go into the Market and buy his Louder Volume Hack app. One click press to change various audio settings without having to reboot. It does need root access.

Some say it doesn't work, some say it do. I believe it's based on your phone model and froyo rom you're running. I have a MT3G and it works fine everytime.
