I flashed CM 7 kang (date 12/02/2012) without any problem. I didn't remove the sd card. I just did a wipe data and a wipe dalvik cache from the recovery.
After the boot, all my settings, apps, data in the sd, were there as before.

So you probably transfered/installed apps  on to the SDcard, right? So flashing the KANG version over the #181 nightly will retain all my apps if i delete chache/dalvik? doesnt wiping cache/dalvik screw-up installed apps ? And is it REALLY necessary to wipe cache/dalvik since KANG just updates CM7 anyway ... sorry, not an expert here ;) i did notice an annoying bug when i wiped Dalvik... Modern Combat 3 game would loop in the intro over and over (i get in the main menu, the game restarts and so on ... weird). When i reinstalled it it worked fine but it's a pain to redownload the files...well,i could copy the  data folder on the SD card ;)

I was wondering how the KANG version works for you so far ,compared to 181 nightly ? Any annoying glitches?

Im being very inquisitive to flashing KANG version because my current CM7 setup runs great... plus im very new to CM7 (i understand the basics and intermediate stuff but not all of it), hence the questions.

thanks

I didn't transfered/installed apps on sd but after the flash I found all my apps and settings.
I think that the flashing just update the system files but doesn't touch apps and data folders. But this is only a guess, I'm not an expert. I did a wipe cache and wipe dalvik just because I read it's good to do it. It worked to me, so if you are going to update, I suggest you to do the same!

Until yesterday evening I would have told you that the kang is perfect. However yesterday evening I plugged the charger in my phone and I left the phone charging (on). After a couple of houres I came back and touching the home button It didn't awake. I pressed the power button for few seconds and the phone booted.
Except for that, the 12/02/2012 seems to work very well. But now I'm thinking what to do, if keep this kang, or go back to the 7.1 version.

By the way I didn't come to kang from the 181 nightly. I came from the stable version.

If you are afraid about loosing your setup, make a nandroid back up. If you will not like the kang you will be able to go back quickly.

In the 181 nightly could you save photos directly to the external sd?

Thanks for the reply :)
Well I flashed it and I discovered that the KANG version has way better wifi reception than the nightly 181. The 181 wifi drivers were pure crap and reception was pathetic so I flashed over the latest Glitch kernel, but I didn't like the colors (has voodoo color).

Yes you can transfer stuff to sdcard in nightly 181

I have the same problem in KANG 7.2 when the phone won't wake-up :/ plus I noticed a grave bug when playing Modern Combat 3 - it runs fine (although I had slight better reading times in nightly ) but in a certain point it completely freezes my phone and reboots it. This is unnacceptable for me... however KANG has an awesome lockscreen added now - HOLO style for the ring lock...damn ,nightly 181 doesn't have it :/

So I also don't know what to do... it really is annoying ,the dilemma of what to do now :D I will flash the latest KANG now (19.2.2012) and of the problem persists I will either flash nightly 181 with glitch kernel OR just go directly to that ICSSGS ROM ...

What do you think ?

P.s.; oh and Nightly 181 has freakin EPIC battery life...KANG's battery life was many hours less. I could run my phone for 24hrs in nightly 181

P.p.s.: oh,you asked about PHOTOS not sdcard transfers of apps... well if you mean that it can save them directly on sdcard when using camera app ? No it can't ...haven't tried transferring photos to sd yet. But I don't think the gallery recognizes photos on sdcard ...weird though

don't know how It can be possible, but in these days the phone burns the battery down at an impressive speed. Yesterday, a full load lasted about 15 hours (normally 30-32 in normal use)

any suggestion to fix it?

When I update from stable to nightly will my apps and stuff be saved or do I need to backup it all up?

You could always try Juicedefender. I use it all the time and it makes my battery last a lot longer than without it. I am on 7.1 (nightly 8.1) as well.

Same problem on my phone with cm9-20120515-nightly.
Gallery app shows error 'no storage: no external storage available' but seems to read the directory structure in the backgroud from sdcard and picture-filenames are displayed.
Plz check to fix.
Everthing else works superb! Really nice nightly :D

Ooops - I think it's the wrong topic... This is cm7... Sorry!

I would like to report a bug on i9000 CM7.2 RC2

I still have the issue, which I had on RC1 as well, that if I start Camera, every single time the screen keps dark. The camera only works, when I then change to VideoMode. Now that I have changed to VideoMode, the camera works and I have to change back to PictureMode to finally be able to make photos.

This issue also accurs on 3 other i9000 models in my family which run on CM7 RC2 as well.

Can I post this somewhere else so this issue will be fixed in the Final?

Hi everyone (my first post here ;)

I'm not sure if it's the right place to post such suggestion, but CM9 way of dealing with security certificates is IMO a little bit annoying - after you install such certificate (for example to authenticate with WiFi using EAP/TLS), you have to use some way of screen lock (pattern/pin/password).

I think 2.3.X way was more user-friendly - you only had to enter password when using certificate (ex. connecting to secured wifi network). Is there any chance for a change?

Hello Inky-Ghost (mentioned under KERNEL-INFO)

I flashed your most recent CM10 nightly (cm-10-20120823-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd.zip) to my GALAXY S1 with success. THANKS!
Two very small issues I would like to mention to you:

1. The kernel boot logo shows still "CM9" instead of "CM10" (or CMX if you'd like?)
2. The FM radio is still missing? Why and when could users expect this feature to function again?

Once again, a big hand for the great work! Would like it, if SAMSUNG would spend only a part of the efforts you do . . . .;-)))

Cheers
Hans

Spirit FM is a working alternative for now... Not the most functional in its free version, but gets things done; haven't tried the paid one...

Sorry, SPIRIT FM is not an FM radio. It's working like any other internet radiostation. What I am looking for is the FM radio feature receiving FM radio signals on air. This hardware feature is still present in the SGS 1 but the hardware driver and the UI is obviously missing in the ICS as well as JELLY Bean ROM's.

I'm observing the foll. bug: Right after keying the SIM card unlock code, I get the error message, that the IMEI number being wrong. However, the phone works absolutely normal, receiving SMS an phone calls and calling are all OK.
This bug is obeserved on CM10 JB nightlies only (cm-10-20120824-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd.zip & cm-10-20120823-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd.zip).

Spirit FM IS an FM radio and I am using it as such. Maybe you are confusing it with some other app but this definitely is an FM app and if you just follow my link from the previous post, you will find it. I am using it with CM10 and for me it is working.
