I'm curious about CM development for the recently released SLCD variant (Galaxy SL [GT-I9003]) of the original Samsung Galaxy S [i9000]. It is available in two versions, differing only in their internal storage capacities:
1. Samsung Galaxy SL [GT-I9003], having 16 GB of internal storage. This was recently released in Germany. More developed countries to follow soon.
2. Samsung Galaxy S LCD 4GB [GT-I9003], having 4 GB of internal storage. This was recently released in India. More developing countries to follow soon.

The Galaxy SL is significantly different from the original Galaxy S in three key areas -- display, chipset and GPU.

* The AMOLED display of the original Galaxy S [GT-I9000] is replaced with a Super Clear LCD (C-type). The increased thickness and weight of the Super Clear LCD contributed to a slight bump in thickness and weight of the device. The decresed power efficiency of the Super Clear LCD is compensated with a 100mAh bump in battery capacity.

* The Hummingbird chipset of the original Galaxy S is replaced with TI OMAP 3630 chipset. This results in a slightly better performance of the 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU. However, the mighty PowerVR SGX540 GPU of the original Galaxy S is replaced with a clearly inferior PowerVR SGX530 GPU.

Apart from major differences in display type, chipset and GPU and minor differences in battery capacity, internal storage capacity (for the Galaxy S LCD 4GB version), thickness and weight, the Galaxy SL has the same specifications as the original Galaxy S. Due to its decresed price compared to the original Galaxy S, the Galaxy SL is positioned in the market as a mid-end device, bringing high-end specs and performance to the mid-range in the Android ecosystem.

I know that the differences in chipset and GPU don't make the task of porting of the CM version of the original Galaxy S to Galaxy SL any easier. But I'm eagerly waiting for a CM build for the Galaxy SL that I'm going to buy in a week.

The Galaxy SL will receive Gingerbread pretty soon. Samsung Mobile India has confirmed an update will be out in July. Would it be possible for any of the devs to take up working on this phone if they are okay with it? Also as pointed out, we need a recovery image.

As I can see there are 2 main differences between the two phones :
Display : SLCD vs Super Amoled
Processor : Texas Instruments OMAP 3630  vs hummingbird

Does anyone tried it yet ?
does this differences prevent the installation of CM ?

CM dev s have provided roms for many devices. Some of which are even given up by their manufacturers. So we will certainly see a cm mod for our beloved galaxy  sl i9003

Not a single dev or mod has as much as posted a reply to this. This device looks hopeless on both XDA and CM forums. Its been treated like a step-cousin. No one seems to give a monkey's about it. :(
