I am using cm7 much to my delight but I noticed yesterday that some apps on the market fail to download. I have had the isue with rockplayer(new installation), google maps(new installation), cordy(update). When i click install or update it starts a download bar for a brief moment with "starting download" which disappears quickly afterwards with a brief message saying "download unsuccessful. I have tried downloading them trough wifi and mobile internet, logged into talk (Since I found there is apparently  a connection between market and talk). What they all have in common is that they are fairly big apps (all in the 10mb+) and so of course I checked if there was enough space (30mb at the moment which should be enough to download and install those apps).

Anyone who had the same problem and knows what to do about it?

Yeah although I can't say it worked, I did something wrong with the ext3 partition so it wouldn't move the download cache and I had to restore a backup... will try it again a bit later today though...

For the record, I had this problem as well -- although it only popped up on rc 3.

I had trouble getting rom manager to partition my card, but used gparted instead.  Then, after installing s2ext, and after a reboot, I was able to move my download cache to the card and all is well.

Hi,

I'm also suffering from the same problem.. apps like Cordy and Google Maps will pop-up in the statusbar but dissapear after 1 second. I just read your explanation about the s2ext, i downloaded the app, but i don't understand what i can do with it or how to use it for the benefit of donwloading the app.

Would love to hear some advice!

many thanks

Well basically what it allows you to do is move some system files to a partiton on your sd card. In that case it is about the download cache, this way the cache gets more room which is currently preventing the big apps from downloading.

In order to make this happen you have to create a ext3 partition on your sd card where so s2ext can move stuff there.

But like I stated before that is just the theory ;) I did something wrong with the ext3 extension made it with a windows partition program while the phone was on usb drive mode which might not have been the best way to do this...but I haven't found the time yet to test this properly. Anyway make sure you have a backup of both your phone and sdcard before doing this and remember that you can also mount your sdcard in clockwork recovery if needed (Wich save my phone since I had move the backup to my pc before hand... not a smart idea to attempt these things when you are in a chaotic mood :D )

I have the same problem but have no experience with making an other partion on my sd card.
I would think that there would be an easier way to fix this.

This also sounds a lot like a bug. Is this something that will be solved in the next build? Anywhere I can follow/submit bugs?

ADB LOGCAT

during app install, have the answer

99% the error is (sort of) "no space left for download"

99% the error is /cache related

sometime aborted download remain on cache as "donwload.apk", wasting precious space. Navigate on /cache o /cache/download and remove (rm) dead files.

Can't this cause any problems?

I don't have the problem anymore so wiping the cache seems to have solved the problem :)

Using the second option of the wiki to install cm7, thus wiping the cache, worked.

For me, wiping the cache didn't solve it either.
I am on stable now.

Thanks for this, worked for me :)

EDIT
Okay it worked once. I wiped the cache then downloaded and installed a large app and Google maps and went to install a third big app and it refused to download, even after a cache clear.

it can be solved using Pataars method, see the other post

but im going to wait until i get some extra opinions before i go creating partitions and wiping SD Cards!

I think you'll find the fix here is much easier and doesnt need a reformat
