Hello,

After the recent OTA firmware upgrade I lost root (visionary)
So when the time came to go Cynogenmod the only option was to downgrade the firmware to 1.32.405.6 from 1.84.720.3

I followed as per this link

# On the computer, open terminal and run the following commands:

    adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
    adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp
    adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/psneuter
    adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
    adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
    adb shell

NOTE: You should have the "#" sign instead of the "$". If you do, you have temporary root, and can continue on.

    /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.31.405.3
    exit

Done...!
I get #

# Copy the 1.32.405.6 firmware to the root of the SD card (NOT in any folders).
# On the computer, open terminal and run the following command:

    adb reboot bootloader

Done...!
Phone reboots

# Follow the on screen directions, on the HTC Desire HD, on flashing the 1.32.405.6 firmware.

Here is where the problem happens.
It checks for the

PD98IMG.nbh
not found
PD98IMG.img
not found
PD98IMG.zip

Blue progress bar finishes
then it will validate the zip

Yellow/golden progress bar

The pops up the below error.

CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press power to reboot.

Phone is not locked to a carrier/branded.
md5 is correct.

Googled it and it seems this error happens if the phone is locked and have to use a gold card ?
Saw several guides on it, but I'm not really sure what it does and don't wanna brick the thing.

Anyway In my case phone is not locked.

What needs to be done next ?
Help suggestions please...

Hello:

I had the same issue while rooting (a few days ago).
To solve this problem (by being able to flash PD98IMG.zip file), you need to do a goldcard -because your phone may be branded-.

Goldcarding a SD is not simple (you have to do some tasks and I only have information in spanish) but basically the steps are:
1.- Get CID (mmc2) code
2.- Get reverse reverse CID (mmc2) code (you can do this and previus step with "goldard hepler" from Market)
3.- Obtain a goldcard.img whit the reverse CID (you may need help from a Internet site)
4.- Copy all the content (with an hex editor) of goldcard.img into formated SD card.
5.- Insert the golcard SD, and proceed to flash PD98IMG file...

I think it´s difficult to brick the phone with an incorrect goldcard, but of course, be carefull.

I had the same problem the other day when I was trying to downgrade my phone to root it (Desire HD, it had a software version 1.84 or somthing)

To make the a goldcard i found this program i have attached to work really well and simple (simplegoldcard.zip)

Just extract right click and run as admin,

  • I put the sd card in a reader first and formatted using the program,
  • Then put the card back in the phone,
  • selcted MCC2 and clicked Get CID
  • clicked on the link below to create img
  • Then load and patch the SD card

Then put the downgrade zip in your goldcard and follow the process again as you did before and it should work fine.

Also i have attached Easy Radio Tool this is good to set S off and i had to have my goldcard in to do that to work as well.

Thank you @elreymon , @tom.roberts

I went through several 'guides'
Do I have to use the Gold card after these steps ?

adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell

NOTE: You should have the "#" sign instead of the "$". If you do, you have temporary root, and can continue on.

/data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.31.405.3
exit

adb reboot bootloader

or can I just boot off the Gold card and upgrade ?

I do believe you need the gold card in during the cmd steps, just do what you did before but with the gold card in the phone with the zip file in the root of the SD card (goldcard).

Gold card worked...!
Thanks a lot. @tom.roberts

I have a new question now.

When flashing Cynogenmod 7 it is required to flash the google packaged every time you update ?
Say from RC1 to RC2.

Also will the contacts sms and other user specific info will need to be restored every time ?

Well I honestly have only just started installing custom roms. So I am not to sure, I installed CM 7.0.0 last week and reflashed Google apps too. And had to restore everything. Like SMS,contacts, account details and installed apps and data.

When CM 7.0.2 was released the otherday I reflashed everything again like I did above and had to restore everything.

I did come across a app on the market called CM updater,I don't if that can be any use I need to test it when new update comes out.

To be on the safe side I do full system back up everything when I flash and backup apps, data, SMS, voicemail details using titanium backup off the market. You need to be rooted obvious really lol

I don't of that helps.

I also had a terrible time making the goldcard.  I finally achieved it using this link, downloading a big zip file that has some scripts and tools.  It automatically created a good goldcard.  It hung on the fastboot task but the goldcard was good and I used it to complete the process.

I need to find a good tool for making reliable goldcard.
