-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This thread is now useless because from CM 7.1.0 we can now disable camera shutter sound in settings:

Settings -> CyanogenMod settings -> Sound -> Mute camera shutter

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a small mod for turning off the camera click and video record sounds, it was driving me crazy.

I made small OGGs with no sound, the update overwrites them.

Tested on SGS I9000 and HTC Desire, also tested on CWM 3.x and 2.x.
SGS was running cm7 nightly 0509, and desire cm7 7.0.3.

Should work on all CM7 branches.

You will have to re-flash after every rom update.

You can also delete the camera_sound_file.ogg and it won't sound anymore... :P

delete("/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg");

I did try that, but it didn't work on Desire with CyanogenMod 7, even with cache and dalvik wipe, for some reason unknown to me.
Besides, this way is easier for people not familiar with adb shell.

You should include that line on an Edify Script, its not intended to run via adb. Also you need to mount /system first in order to work properly. You shouldn't have any problem with it using latest Cyanogen, since the file is there and doesn't change.

Yes, you are right. At the time I thought it might overwrite it at reboot, because that's what it does when deleted with root explorer. Now I only care that it works :). Please feel free to change it if you want.

i tried renaming it w/ ESFile Explorer but still had the sound.  So i went into Settings/Sound/SilentMode and selected it.
That seemed to do it.

Have a great morning!  :)

I renamed the file extension using Super Manager and it had the same effect...the camera shutter is now silent.  Thanks!

I just ran the cam_nosound_cm7_signed.zip on my htc MyTouch 4G slide, with CM 7.03 and it did not work.  The camera still clicks.  It didn't give any errors when I ran it in recovery.  Any ideas?  I also would like to get rid of the camera click.  It's annoyingly loud.

i downloaded Super Manager from the Android Marketplace and it does not work.  where did you get your version of Super Manager that supposedly worked for you?

You can enter the following in terminal to disable camera sound:

setprop persist.camera.shutter.disable 1

Didn't work on LG O2X RC1.

You just hit enter in the terminal prompt, after you've entered the line?

Yeah, run as SU;

In terminal type SU enter, setprop command (there's a space between the word disable and the number) enter.

This puts a file in /data/property/

Thanks, now it works. Just had to enter 'su' and activate Super User privileges.

You have to remove the shutter sound files. There are various topics on here that discuss how to do it.
