I have run out of internal memory on my htc hero and I'm not sure about how to go about partitioning my sd card and moving all of my apps to my sd card.

ROM manager app.... scroll down to partition SD card....
BUT..... before you do this, hook up to your computer and copy your entire SD card to a new folder on your desktop. The reason why you do this is because when you click onto the tab "partitin sd card" on the ROM manager you will be told that everything on your SD card will be erased.
After you click to partition it, just keep hitting the ok or enter key until it starts it process.
When completed, reboot and then Copy everything back to SD card.
Once this is done, you will need to go to settings/applications/manage applications/all.... then you will have to go to every single app and tap on it and then tap the "move to SD card" tab... its only once so after you do this then go to settings/cyanogen settings/applications... then check the "allow application moving" then go to "install location" and put it at EXTERNAL... this will ensure that every new app you install will go to the SD card....

You can google this process and find a YOUTUBE video on it also..
good luck

I don't really understand the need to partition the card.  And forgive me for my ignorance, but I've never seen an explanation anywhere that tells why to do it.  I originally used a 4GB card that was in my Samsung Rant, popped it in my HTC Hero, and was off & running.  Used same card when I rooted, and then subsequently put CM6.1 on in January.  I've moved every single app it will let me to my SD Card.  I recently upgraded that card to a 16GB Card, by copying the contents onto my computer, and then on to the 16GB card.  Popped it in the Hero, powered on, and off & running.  Last week, I wiped CM6.1 and reinstalled (after backing up with ROM Manager) and have been running like a champ ever since.

What does the partition do for you on the SD Card?  Does this partition "extend" the RAM the phone sees for it's own RAM?  Or does it just isolate an area of the card for the APPS?  And if that's the case, what's the advantage to this?

Yes and it frees up your internal memory for better performance... this way only the Cyanogen mod's system is using the internal memory and any APP that is turned on....
or else it will be S   L   O   W :)

Well, I backed up the SD Card, and did the biggest partition and swap file it would allow.  And I see no difference whatsoever.  It seems the same as it did before...and I have the same amount of system ram, so the phone isn't seeing the partition as an extension of it's available space...at least it doesn't appear to.

Am I missing something?

if you're running CM7 then you should have at least 70-80 MB free out of the 190MB available.... if you have that then you're good....
It will matter when your streaming and multitasking... less crashes

what do you have free
settings/about phone.... then scroll down

Do u mean ur home screen is just wallpaper with no Widgets? If so then I've noticed that the app must be on internal memory for it to be a widget option.

Can you reload your wallpaper?
Can you go to ADW settings and reload the dock bar?
you may have put some apps that belong to the system or SD card and its looking for them just like on a computer if files are renamed or relocated... the desktop shortcut will not work...

to open the APP drawer just hold down for a wiget and pick launcher actions if you dont want the ADW dowk bar
