Running CM7.0.0.3 and get very poor pictures.  Washed out and muddy detail.  This camera is supposed to be like 5Mp, right?

I thought it might be that there was a crease in the plastic cover on the back, so I spent $25 on a new back.  But no help.

Isn't this camera supposed to be better than a 1960's series Kodak?  Disposable cameras are better than this...

Try this, because I only discovered this yesterday.  I was taking pictures of my daughter, and I too have noticed that the photo quality seems to have diminished the last few weeks (since upgrading to CM7).  Trying to navigate the settings to make sure that the highest quality was chosen (a setting I could swear was there before), I stumbled upon contrast, brightness, and sharpness controls.  The sharpness was set way down.  So I increased the sharpness, and I can swear that the picture quality is at least back to what it was.

You'll find that setting in the viewfinder window... it's the little icon with the 4 bars that look like volume control sliders.

Let me know if you think you see an improvement by changing the sharpness.  I just want to make sure I'm not crazy.

Might be marginally better now that I have Sharpness up to 30.

But the major problem is all pictures are washed out.  When I open the pic in Gimp and Color|Levels|Auto the pic is vastly improved.  I only have to lighten a bit by moving the white arrow left a half-frame.

Just very poor picture quality.  And very poor audio quality.  I am not impressed at all with HTC.

I've had about enough of CM.  Been using it since 5, and every single version has had significant usability problems.  Currently in 7.0.3 photos are bad, GPS is non-functional, it forgets settings like keyboard, when I first answer the phone no one can hear me.

Terrible.  There has got to be something better.  If not I'm going to stock.

Have you deleted your /system directory before flashing 7.0.3? GPS is fine, photos are better quality than stock, keyboard settings seem to be fine, and I have zero problems with the phone. I think it's just your device really.

I did a full wipe/factory reset and formatted the SD card before version 7.

No, that's enough for CM;  I've been patient and kept trying since version 5 but they will never be able to get their sh*t together.  I've gone to MIUI and it seems so much more modern.

The data wipe/factory reset option in recovery is not the same as wiping /system. That needs to be done manually, but since you are running Amon_RA you probably wouldn't know about it. It isn't included in there, although it will supposedly make it into a future version. You will need to try a flashable zip like Temasek's Extreme Wipe which will wipe the /system partition for you (along with the other partitions).

My photos turn out sharp, clear and vibrant. GPS also works great. I use it for navigation, Google Sky Map, My Tracks, and geotagging photos. I have swype set as my keyboard and it never forgets it (make sure that any alternate keyboards are installed internally) and the 2-3 second call delay has been fixed in the nightlies (although this is a google bug so you will experience it with stock as well). I love CyanogenMod and can't stand using other firmwares, but if MIUI seems more your style, enjoy it. The custom firmware scene (and to a lesser extent, but still there Android itself) is all about choices. If something isn't your style, switch it. But the problems you are having with CyanogenMod are all fixable.

I finally got the Cyanogenmod 7 working on my AT&T Galaxy S II and rooting my phone was not near as easy as some people make it out to be.  But now that I'm here, I'm not sure if the gains were worth the trade offs.  I think the icons are a bit small and so is the text and there is no option for this.  But I can live with that, but going from taking beautiful high quality 8mg pictures to dim and fuzzy ones isn't one I'm willing to forgo. Either there is some camera software out there I can download that will give me back my great pictures or Cyangenmod needs to put this at the top of their list of fixes.

And one of the reasons I rooted my phone was for the NFC feature which doesn't work even after rooting.  And yes I have the battery with the NFC logo on it so my phone is capable of using this feature.  Another issue is the ABC keyboard that immulates the iPhone keyboard letters which I really liked, but I can't make it work since rooted.  I will work with all of this for a few weeks before throwing in the towel but I hope they improve and/or fix some of these things.

Have any of you with poor photo quality tried Camera360? Apparently it was one of the best paid apps that suddenly went (and stayed) free at Christmastime. I use it on my non-CM phones. Maybe that will help for you.
