That is incredibly strange...maybe try redownloading and flashing again? Make sure you wipe data, it sounds like the launcher is borked somehow.
Also, has anyone that's updated to the latest nightly had a problem where contacts no longer show up in their texting app? ChompSMS just started displaying their number, even though hitting Add Contact just opened up their (filled out) contact page. I restored back because it bothered me so much.
Downloaded Nightly 3, Full wipe and all is working now, including keyboard lights which were not. Thanks for all the work guys.

Ok I downloaded "Chomp" from the market I get it is an apk search engine ... I'm missing the problem? Sorry
But "chompsms" is a message apk that is reading my contacts just find .... am I messing up the apk name?

So sorry, I did mean ChompSMS, I didn't realize there was an application under the name Chomp. I'll do a full wipe when I get home and install last night's nightly, I'm fairly hopeful it'll work for me if it did for you. Thank you for your help
Also, stock: if you brick your phone, you'll have to SBF. The only tip I have to offer is make sure you are not updated to gingerbread...I made that mistake.

I want to start off saying, I'm new to the whole custom ROM thing, so please do excuse me if this question is stupid and everyone and their grandmothers know the answer.
So here it goes: Why exactly do you need to be on Froyo (2.3.20) to flash this ROM? Is this not a 2.3.4 Gingerbread ROM?
I ask this because I currently am on 2.3.3 using Apex 2.0 RC2 (as my profile states), and I don't understand why I would not just be able to flash CM7 over it.
I will wind up going back to 2.3.20, since this is as the instructions state and I do not wish to brick my phone, but I do not understand why that is a requirement?
Also, how stable is nightly 4, and if it's out while you are reading this, nightly 5?
I am aware these are experimental builds, but are they usable?
Judging by the posts in this thread they are, I just want to confirm.
Thanks in advance for taking your time to read this, and possibly answer my inquiries.

2.3.20, or 2.3.4?
I cannot test myself right now because I am having difficulties with my computer, and don't feel like risking the SBF Flash failing.
Plus, this gives me opportunity to see if it's worth switching to CM7, I would think if Apex is GB and CM7 isn't then sticking with Apex may be the better solution.

CM7 is a GB rom but it runs on the stock kernal. So if you are on the GB leak and try to flash it you WILL boot loop and have to sbf your phone. That's why if you are going from a GB rom (Liberty, Zombie, Apex GB, etc) then you are going to want to
1. SBF back to Froyo.
2. Root your phone (using zroot most likely).
3. Flash CM7 using rom manager. (You can use bootstrap to flash CM7 over Froyo but after that it will cause boot loops so might as well play it safe and use rom manager from the start)
4. Remember to flash GAPPs (I like to flash GAPPs right after flashing the rom but thats just me)

So you have to be on Froyo to flash CM. Once you go in to About it is 2.3.4, Gingerbread. But you're still booting off the Froyo kernel...

One last question though, if it's still using the Froyo kernel, does it still profit from the increased battery life Gingerbread offers?

They're definitely stable, as far as I can see, and I've been using these nightlies as daily ROMS. I'm on 4 right now and will update to the latest one as soon as possible. There are some minor bugs, but nothing that will keep you from enjoying your device to its (almost) full potential. You can read back over the previous posts in this forum to see what bugs are in the ROM for now.
As for your question about Gingerbread, I tried to flash CyanogenMod from Liberty Gingerbread and locked my phone in the boot screen. I had to SBF back to Froyo and re-root, so NO, this is not Gingerbread based and flashing from Gingerbread will not yield positive results.
Hope this helps, and good luck.

I've got the same issue. I'm running nightly #4 (did a full wipe when I flashed #2, only wiped caches when I flashed #4...) The ambient light sensor (and the custom backlight settings) are also not working for me. Sounds like Dewlite had some luck with nightly #3 and a full wipe.
Have you tried a newer build with a full wipe?
