Hi all,
I've got a stock HTC Desire (froyo w/ HTC Sense) and I'm thinking of rooting & installing C7 on it.
Currently I'm having problems with battery life and low space errors (although I'm only running a handful of apps, literally, I get the error every day which then stops all OTA syncing); will the C7 help sort out these issues? I really don't think HTC will release Gingerbread on this unit which gives me another reason to mod - the latest I read was Gingerbread & the new Sense takes up too much space on the phone for it to be viable.
Also, is it easy to root & flash the ROM on the Desire/Bravo; what are the chances of me bricking it (I've got until February before I can upgrade and don't really want to be phone-less for the next 7 months)
Thanks for taking the time to read, and I appreciate any help/advice you can offer.
Ben

(I am not and expert on rooting or someone with a lot of knowledge about AndroidOS it self. Do have some experience with and some basic knowledge about Android. Correct me if I am wrong, just trying to help out...and doing so with wrong information...well, ...isn't very helpful ><)
Rooting makes it indirectly possible to install all your apps on your SD-card. When doing that it's highly advisable to use a fast SD-card, saves you from a slow phone and trouble. I am not sure how big the chance is that you'll brick your phone. I do know it's not thát dangerous, but you need to keep in mind that as long you have a rooted phone, the warranty isn't valid anymore. Restoring the stock ROM (HTC Sense) solves that. I can imagine situations with bricked devices (malfunctioning hardware, by normal usage) and being unable to restore the stock ROM. Haven't read anything about it nor do I know what the options are in a certain situation. It gets dangerous when you are doing things without knowing the consequences. Bricking your phone can be quite easy in those cases, I think.
Rooting and flashing a ROM isn't that hard, altough it takes some practice and depends how tech-savy you are (experience with coding, tweaking etc.) On the other hand you have special software available to make it a lot easier. Personally I recommend you to search for articles and older topics similar to the current one on the web. Many others have preceded you and had the same questions. Ow and, BACK-UP BEFORE ROOTING!
I rooted my HTC Desire and created an ext-partition (Linux-partition, Android = Linux) on my SD-card, to make Apps2Ext available. To put it simple, creating more space for apps. I also installed Cyanogenmod (duh!
). I used the Unrevoked software to root my phone.

Just like MartinL says, it's easy to root your phone, and there are many ways to root it, the most common method is using Unrevoked software, there are instructions on how to root using Unrevoked in the wiki webpage of Cyanogenmod. (http://wiki.cyanogen...ll_Update_Guide).
As for the part that you stated "I really don't think HTC will release Gingerbread on this unit which gives me another reason to mod...". Well, I can confirm that HTC will release Gingerbread for HTC Desire in early August.

DO IT!!!
If you follow the instructions when rooting (unrevoked3 and downgrade to 2.1 before doing it) you will not regret it fella, sooo tweakable compared to stock and yes app2sd using simple2ext will solve all.
