Given the recent explosion of nightly users, I understand your need for a place to discuss them, and/or ask if other users are having similar issues as you...this is that place

1) DO NOT: Post to the bug tracker
2) DO NOT: Open another thread (I will enforce this with temp bans)
3) DO NOT: Think of this as official forum support; this thread will be strictly user to user support. Don't expect CM-dev help.

** These CyanogenMod builds are highly experimental and unsupported.
**
** Please refrain from submitting bug reports for any issues
** you may encounter while running one of these builds.
**
** Submitting bug reports on nightly builds is the leading
** cause of male impotence.

Can you please give us the steps on how to build the ROM from github source? I need some customizations for myself since the music application(or others like bTunes) can not display Chinese song's name correctly(MediaScanner). Thanks very much.

You can simply push DroidSansFallback.ttf font to /system/fonts if you want to read Chinese text.

The problem is not related to this. It is about media tag parsing. When medial meta-data encoding is not UTF-8, it will use the local encoding. This is in the file MediaScanner.cpp. See here bug about this:

At the moment it is using the native Froyo Apps2SD, so you don't need an ext2-partition. You can move specific apps to the sdcard, although there are some disadvantages.
The CM team is working on getting the "old" Apps2SD to work on CM6.

could you please tell me what disadvantages it has? and if it is native froyo, why the settings for that is in cm settings?

Apps disappear when the SD is mounted to a PC.
The setting for it is there because normally Froyo doesn't allow you to enable or disable Apps2SD via a GUI.

Is these the latest changes for CM6 for Hero, that's included in the nightlies, or where should I look for changelogs?
http://github.com/Cy...mits/froyo.atom

And btw, are you aware of the changes the Villain team has done to the kenel for the Hero (GSM)?
See my/VillainROM's Twitter: http://twitter.com/sibbor

And keep on rocking ;-)!

EDIT: spelling and: sad to see that LoxDev ain't here so much. Would love to see a couple of dedicated developers here for the Hero.

is it just me, or are others also experiencing major battery drain with CM6 nightly on HTC Hero GSM?

I suspect it is the email client (in exchange mode) going crazy

Put one of the recent nightlies on my GSM Hero a few days back and I'm very impressed so far, can't really comment on my battery drain yet as I've used it pretty heavily today. One of the reasons I switched was due to battery drain on my previous ROM though, hoping it performs better.

I used to have Exchange ActiveSync set to "push" mode (= instant delivery of incoming emails). After changing this setting to poll the server in 15min intervals instead, the battery life of my Hero has improved. My peace of mind has improved too.

For anyone experiencing lag or excessive battery drain on CM6 nightly builds. You are probably using a Mail for Exchange account...
If so, try to unmark the "Default Account" checkflag under the account settings AND set it to "Push". I had it configured to sync every hour before and battery drained in no time and hero was almost unusable due to the lag. (the email app also showed up as second in the battery usage stats, first was the screen)

It solved my battery drain and the enormous lag I had.

(if you have only one exchange account and you unmark the "default account" setting it will remark the setting again automatically but the problem does not return)

Running the nightly from the 4th of August. All running very good, apart from the minor bug in the Exchange connector... See previous post.

But, one question. I have seen screenshots from HTC Hero users running CM6 and getting a linpack score of over 5! Even if I fix it on 710MHz (max in kernel on nightly) with JIT on and a few reboots, no compcache. The max I get is 3.8.

Anyone? Am I forgetting something?

Thx,
Xlilo

I believe I'm running the same build (or maybe a day before, only a few days old anyway) and similar results for me - everything seems pretty damned good, but no Linpack score higher than about 3.75. Battery life is much better for me though after a few days of testing, I also installed TheMasterBaron's "2G whilst sleeping" app which is no doubt helping the battery too.

I am running the same as you, and I get 4.7 - 5.2 , maybe you have many processes running in the background?

No, even on clean install no more than 3.8

Also, I'm not using any overclock widget... By default it will do ondemand till 710, so...
On previous roms I could safely go to 729. But I'm ok with 710. All is very smooth.

Did you see the message from Darch saying camera is 100% OK now. This in on Heroc... Will it be the same for Hero gsm? Anyone?
Will it be in the new nightlies?

Lox said it will work in both :) And in the GitHub are some changes from Darch :)
