I was wondering of Cyanogen is planning to add support for the Kindle Fire to its devices list.
With a pricetag of only 199USD, thisone will really become a mainstream tablet.
It's only sad that it probably wont support Android Market (but amazons app store), Google eBooks (but kindle books), Google Music (Beta, or Music store that still has to launch) (but Amazons music store) and so on...
I prefer to have those Google services instead of the Amazon variants, but I really like the specs and price of the Kindle Fire, so Cyanogen would be a very good solution for that.
I dont know whether the Kindle Fire will have Honeycomb, I hope so, if it doesn't, CyanogenMod (with Honeycomb support), even becomes a must
Anyone from inside please let me know how the team's thinking about the Kindle Fire!

Seems like a very capable little piece of hardware, any news on whether this will be officially supported by CM? I'm thinking it most likely will but wanted to see if anyone's heard anything... unless I'm missing something in the forums....

They usually won't announce anything until it has nightlies available (or you follow some devs on twitter or G+). They don't want to say that a port will be available, but then have it fall through due to software glitches, driver issues, system being too locked down, and others.
I would keep an eye out on xda, as that is typically where devices start getting ROMs available (and it usually happens awhile before CM announces it).
Also, there will probably never be a CM version of Honeycomb. The source was never made available, and won't be until after ICS is released. CM8 will most likely be ICS based and there isn't a reason to come out with a Honeycomb version when a newer version would already be available.

As do I, it is defiantly one of the tablets in the running for me to get.
Does anyone know if CM9 is coming to Archos? ARCHOS 80 G9 at $299 it is a good contender.

here's hoping for CM on the Fire. I plan on picking one up, and the sheer number of Fires that will be out there is a good sign there will be support. I'm sure CM will be faster/better/stronger/leaner than what Amazon has come up with.

Would be helpful to know which device, Nook Tablet or Kindle Fire, will get better support.

The only advantage the Kindle Fire has over the Nook Tablet is the custom software and cloud services. If you eliminate that by installing CM7 or CM9 then why bother with the Kindle Fire when the Nook Tablet has far better hardware for not much more money?

Because the fire might get more dev support due to it being a lot cheaper ... for me it is a $74 price difference between the NT and the KF due to taxes. Also - who knows, maybe there will be ROMs that support the cloud services and offer newer/better software a la CM9, ie best of both worlds.
Look at some of the phones out there: they might be great phones but if there is no dev support you are SOL

Looks like the NT is locked (ie no third party roms) while the KF already has been rooted and has had its source code published ...

Yeah, I saw this too. While I'm sure someone will eventually manage to root the NT, Amazon's prompt release of source bodes well for third-party support in the long-run.
It really needs a custom rom, too, because Amazon stripped out a bunch of the standard APIs, for some reason, so many apps won't work on it.

I just said goodbye to my Nook Color, so I will wait and see which device gets the best dev support before taking the plunge.
While the NT seems to be better hardware wise, Amazon's handling of the KF seems to be better (and there seems to be more hope for custom ROMs)

Looks like Amazon is officially taking a permissive approach to modding... while, of course, not officially supporting modding.
From http://www.tomsguide...news-12700.html
Some useful related info.
Want to enable adb access to the Fire from Windows? Just enter this into the command prompt.
SuperOneClick will root the Fire.
And here is the fire source code.

"It's going to get rooted, and what you do after you root it is up to you," said Jon Jenkins, director of Amazon's Silk browser project.

echo 0x1949 >> "%USERPROFILE%\.android\adb_usb.iniSimilar syntax works with other OSes, but basically just append "0x1949" to the adb_usb file.
SuperOneClick will root the Fire.
And here is the fire source code.

Well, B&N said the same about the Nook Tablet but it looks like the bootloader is locked which means there will be NO rom development for the device:
http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1349264
A locked bootloader is a very disappointing development for the Nook Tablet and kills it as a hacking platform for devs.
I really wish that somebody proves this bad news wrong as I like the microphone, the additional ram and the SD card expansion slot, but with no custom roms the Nook Tablet is dead in the water if you ask me.
... but that exactly the reason why I am waiting before taking the plunge with either the Fire or the Nook Tablet.
Oh - and apparently people already have gotten Clockwork mod installed on the Fire though it is not working yet:
http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1351955
Looks like Amazon got themselves a very nice, dev friendly tablet!
