Hi,

I've just upgraded from 7.1.0 RC1 to 7.1.0 Stable version of CM and since I've done that the "Home" and "Search" buttons are not working (the hepatic feedback works, but the phone doesn't do anything) - So whenever I want to exit an application I have to hit the "Back" button a few times to go back (which is a real pain in the butt)

Also, don't know if it's a known issue or if it's my problem, but my GPS isn't locking (I'll update later when I go back home from work - I'll try to make the GPS work). The WiFi works superbly, unlike others who reported problems.

If anyone has any clue as to how to solve this Home and Search button problem - that would be awesome!

Thanks!
John.

Try running the following in terminal as root

sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO secure (name,value) VALUES ('device_provisioned','1');"

I remember this issue happening occasionally in the past, and the above was used to resolve it.

Thanks for that info, but I can't find that folder (and when I run this command in Terminal it says that it cannot find that database file...
Got any suggestions?

That is weird, those folders and that file exist on my phone. Are you sure you typed everything out properly? Can you try using a root enabled file browser and see if you can find it that way?

Just to say, same problem with me on the Desire HD and it worked!

Maybe you could try reflashing update-CM so it'd add the file in again?

OK, just an update - it appears as if I restored too many options using my Titanium Backup app and that's what caused my phone to go crazy (also, I had issues with phone calls being automatically diverted into the voicemail)

I did a factory reset and installed CM7.1 again and now the phone works great! (This time I just restored the apps, not the phone settings)

Thanks for your help! the mod looks stable and battery life is awesome so far. WiFi works great.

This totally worked! Thank you so much! With these 2 buttons not working it really sucked.
Remember to have rooted access and elevate to SU (superuser).

I'm experiencing the same issue on my evo and couldnt find similar topics in the evo forums. Yesterday I moved a most of my apps to sd and when i booted up the home and search buttons dont work and all of my setting are off (ie location settings, keyboard switched back to default etc) It is also sending all calls to voicemail. anyways I'm somewhat new to this- can someone tell me how or point me in the direction of a good guide on how to run something in terminal as root? thanks

I had/have a similar problem with my Desire.  The Home/Search keys were working after the initial install of cm 7.1.0 then, after a couple of days I found they weren't.  Earlier today I did a reinstall of everything and all was fine until this evening when I suddenly discovered they'd stopped working again.

I tried the terminal sql command above, then the reinstall of gapps - neither worked, then I remembered something from my Galaxy Tab Overcome installs... if you Freeze or remove the native email app, it screws things up (can't remember what but no matter).

Among the last things I did this evening before realising the Home/Search keys were broken was freeze a bunch of unused apps using Titanium, specifically...

Google One Time Init
Home screen tips
Live Wallpaper Picker
Magic Smoke Wallpaper
Market Apps Installer
Music
Music Visualisation Wallpapers
My Uploads
Swype Installer

...so I Defrosted them all and, voila, working Home and Search keys.  Interestingly, refreezing them all again and rebooting did NOT cause the buttons to fail again, perhaps something else needs to be the trigger.  Because the buttons are now working I cannot identify which of the above might be the culprit, if it happens again I'll selectively defrost to better identify the key app.

Nonetheless, it is another avenue of possible solution for those who have this issue - defrost any frozen apps and see if it restores the functionality.

Hope this helps someone.

Any particular reason you thought this deserved to be in the thread about the Home and Search button not working?

I have, at long last, discovered the reason for my own problem with the Home and Search buttons not working which may help, see... http://forum.cyanoge...217#entry282217

I have this problem

N2-CyanogenMod-7.2.0-RC0-OptimusOne-KANG-signed

I tried the fix, via adb shell.

adb shell /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO secure (name, value) VALUES ('device_provisioned','1');"

I didn't get an error message, but it didn't fix it.

I can't figure out how to do it on the phone itself yet: the keyboard that comes with CGM7 doesn't have an underscore!!

This is the only thing that I'm aware of that isn't working, since I flashed this ROM.

You would need to have sqlite3 in front of the location, but after the adb shell...

adb shell
su
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO secure (name,value) VALUES ('device_provisioned','1');"

It does... press the number button (?123) and then either long press on the hyphen, or press the alt button and it will appear in place of it.

Same problem (and then some) with CM7 stable for G2X. Reflashing fixed it.

Thanks bassmadrigal! That one little entry fixed a lot of things I broke on my Dinc after blowing out data/data.
