So I am installing Cyanogen for the first time and i have just read "The latest radio is needed to run CyanogenMod 7".
How do I know if I have the latest radio? In fact, what is a radio?
Thanks.

The radio is the basic software in the phone that operates a lot of basic functions, including the radio to connect to the cell towers, your wifi, bluetooth, camera, and more.
It is listed under Settings -> About Phone -> Baseband
We typically just use the two sets of numbers after the underscore "_". The best supported version is 5.08.

Yes, that is the best radio to use with CyanogenMod (99% of the time). This is also the radio that Google included when they sent the OTA update for Gingerbread.

Wow. I don't know how I got so far ahead, but I upgraded to the baseband version 5.12 * this past spring, before I flashed into CM 7.0.0 stable.
I've been running this configuration since, but would it be advisable or even possible to downgrade the radio to 5.08 ?
I am wondering if this could be the cause of some intermittent Bluetooth issues I've been having with my phone since then.
* Full version I see under Baseband version is 32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08

It is possible to downgrade the radio. Now, I am not sure whether or not it would fix your problems with bluetooth, as I have heard of quite a few problems with bluetooth over the time being on the forum (I hardly use bluetooth on my phone).
