PLEASE, please, please release a ROM with NO added apps. Let us install only the ones we like. PLEASE!

Nothing but the basic functions and email. Let us install everything else we want from the various markets. Please don't add anything, we need the small footprint and no bloat. Just root it, deodex, zip align stuff like that. Please?

Thank you.

That isn't what CyanogenMod is all about. If you want one that is just rooted, deodexed, zip aligned, and more, look for one of the stock rooted versions of ICS that are sure to pop up on xda. CM heavily customizes the AOSP source to provide what they feel is the best user experience. They do leave out all the google apps and require you to flash a separate file called gapps to provide access to the Android Market. This in turn allows you to install gmail, youtube, facebook, and more.

But you aren't even required to use that as there are now other alternative markets you can install.

If you don't like certain apps, just crank up your favourite zip program and delete the apps you don't like.  I've been doing it for months, and have a nice little shell script that does this with the latest CM nightly I've downloaded.  You can use 7zip etc to do it manually.  Or course, you remove the wrong apk and you might break the ROM ... it's called a "learning experience" :-)  That is why you do nandroid backups.

if you remove any file of a signed rom --> rom isn't signed anymore? --> no flash possible?

I haven't have a problem flashing after I've done this, and I've been doing it for at least 6 months, probably 2-3 roms/month.   There is an option in CWM Recovery to ignore signatures, but I don't recall if I used it or not.

You can also resign the zips. But both ClockworkMod and Amon_RA have the option to disable signature checks so you can flash files that aren't signed properly.

The only request I have is how big should our system and data partitions be? :P

Well, I am not sure I would resize anything until it is known how big ICS will be. But you can shrink your cache partition size assuming you are using an ext partition, and then just move the cache onto that (I think they recommend shrinking it to 5MB).

Great tip :)   I've been running my cache at 2MB and it's been good, if you want to squeeze the extra 3MB out :P
