Could you please explain how to do this Custom recovery?
place the SystemUI-Fix-V1.zip on the root of your sd-card
open mobile uncle tools>Flash Recovery From SdCard> select recovery.img (recovery is somewhere in this thread> download if you don't have 1^^)
In the custom recovery>>>>>>>>>>Flash zip from sd-card>choose zip from sd-card > SystemUI-Fix-V1.zip
Done!!! :)

I think you should flash the file using the custom recovery.....

If you want to maintain the custom recovery instead of the stock one, delete the file "recovery-from-boot.p" from  /system before flashing the custom recovery ;)

What android version do you got?
And does it have the touchwiz launcher or stock android launcher by default?
Does it have the simcard slots next of each other or on top of each other?

This phone has a download mode(ignore above comment) but thats triggered different and it also can only be used with different mtk software instead of fastboot ^^

I got Android 2.3.6 (2.6.35.7 Thu Mar 2212:48:28 CST 2012)
  Build number: ALPS.GB.FDD2.MP.V4.5
  Custom Build Version: 1332391723

It has the stock launcher.
The simcard slots are next to each other.
Not sure I am allowed to post links but I bought it from dhgate:
Do you know if there is any way to get into the download mode?

My HDC bought through eBay was already updated to Android 2.3.5
I tried SuperOneClick with no success, then I tried "DooMLoRD v4 ROOT" and managed to root my HDC A9100

Here's the direct link to download the file: http://forum.xda-dev...76&d=1325678726

Hope this will help you out!!! ^_^
I tried but keeping getting the same problem:
--- pushing zergRush
304 KB/s (23060 bytes in 0.074s)
--- correcting permissions
--- executing zergRush

Supposing you have the HDC A9100 the thread is born for, the way to root the phone is using SuperOneClick (2.2 or 2.3).
Please use a PC with OS XP 32 bit (Windows 7, and/or 64 bit, may have problems) to root the phone and be sure to have the right drivers otherwise you can't success.

install the drivers onto the PC
connect the phone via USB to the PC
unmount the SD card
open SuperOneClick
click "Root" and wait until it ends
accept to install the busibox

that's all..... should be done!

EDIT: here are the drivers http://www.4shared.c...100_driver.html
Thanks I tried it following exact instructions but no luck, the driver apperas as "My HTC" although I have tried other drives such as the one installed by default through pdanet and get the same error.

Thanks a lot guys, really unfortunate that I seem to have bought the only terminal which does not appear to be rootable :( Perhaps I need to wait until a new exploit comes out or someone discovers a way to use other methods such as goldcard,etc,...

Thats the Tops i9100, it's a different phone (it also looks worse).
Rooting isn't that hard for it, just use the following superoneclick and make sure development is checked in settings ;): http://dl.getdropbox...3-ShortFuse.zip

The small plastic piece looks very convincing to be steel!

Yes but the wire needs to fit inside the hole >> HERE

(once you take that small silver plastic piece out)

(I tried with the original samsung nexus s headphones but they dont fit through the hole)>>>>(even though the plastic has been taken off)

(hole is abut 4mm without the plastic piece)

try to get some headphones from poundland (every thing is a pound) == £1 == 1.2 euros   HERE
