Before rooting or installing a custom ROM is there anything else I should be paying attention to as a Canadian Bell Canada subscriber or does that make any difference at all?

Pay close attention to the where it says AT&T ONLY and BELL ONLY. The ram issue mentioned has been fixed in the most recent pudding releases, so don't worry about that. Aside from that, check the rom threads for mentions of whether or not the developer approves the rom's use on a Bell Atrix. If you arent sure, skim the thread and look for posts from fellow Bell users reporting the rom's status on their phone.

Cyanogenmod should work properly, and you can follow the standard installation instructions for the recovery and rom.
