I wasn't thrilled with the neon pink boot animations so I obtained the animations from a unbranded Galaxy S.Extract the bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg from the attached zip to /sdcard or wherever works best just substitute wherever you extract them.
adb shellsumount -o rw,remount /systemrm /system/media/bootsamsung.qmgrm /system/media/bootsamsungloop.qmgbusybox mv /sdcard/bootsamsung.qmg /system/mediabusybox mv /sdcard/bootsamsungloop.qmg /system/media
Now when you reboot you will just receive the Galaxy S logo without the T-Mobile crap.Note: Not 100% sure if these files violate any terms so if they do just delete them and I'll upload them somewhere else.Edit: Typos

im still new to all this. anyway to make the changes for the startup in this post be the boot down also? would it be as easy as making it point to the same files ? how would i do that

Thanks so much for this. I took all your suggestions, plus one more:

I loaded the Camera.apk from the Captivate, as detailed here:

http://forum.xda-dev...ad.php?t=751031

Just got my phone today, and it's rockin'!

You now have a special section in the original post, complete with a Youtube video that won't turn off the auto-embed.

Better idea: http://www.mediafire...00_shutdown.zip

This has been added to the original post.

Can this .zip just be flashed or do we have to replace all the files in the appropriate directory manually?

Nevermind.  I just answered my own question.  Had to copy/paste everything into /system/media/video/shutdown.  Definitely beats the flying pink "goodbye"s :D

Is there any way to replace the Samsung MMS app with the stock one? I had a quick play with it in store, I'm hoping to get one early next week, but I don't like the whole "speech buble" layout in the Samsung messaging app.

Yes, well I have the epic.  I removed the apk and odex pushed the CM5 mms apk to /system/app.  The only issue is that the led settings don't work (figured that much).  But also the lockscreen to new message doesn't work correctly.  When there is a new message it will have the mms icon but say "zero" new. Then when you slide down (or puzzle for you).  It doesn't open the mms apk.  I also had to chmod 644 Mms.apk... I hope this helps anyone.  does anyone know what apk controls lockscreen?  I think its the framework but I am not sure...  I would like to get a different lockscreen so that I can use the mms.apk  I am very anal about how things work and having that broken mms show up would bother me...

From what they were saying on XDA the lockscreen is coded in, the exact coding location wasnt located as last I checked. A number of people wanted at VERY least to get the Froyo lockscreen back. In response to that question it was being said its in the system files coding itself. I havent really researched too much farther into that strictly because I dont want to do a world of work to 2.1 just to get 2.2 when wes/tmo get it released.

Is the Samsung JG5 firmware de-odexed? Or would I hav to use something like Modaco's Custom Rom?

Alternatively, are there any lock screen replacements that don't suck? (I'm guessing the answer is no... ;) )

Nah, they all go over top of the existing screen and then you have two lock screens lol

Quick question--how can I install non-market apps on my brand spanking new captivate? I have it rooted, unlocked (for tmobile), and everything is working fine--but I REALLY want the news & weather widget (and setcpu and slide app manager). I'm familiar with pushing and pulling apps in adb, but all I can find is something about a sideloader app and other stuff about modifying setting.db. My problem is that the sideloader app is apparently pretty limited, and I've something on xda about modifying the setting.db file being bad if you wanted to make future changes to the phone. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks a lot

Edit: Yea, scratch that--the sideloading app is way easier than i expected. Lol, thanks anyway!

Well if youre using ADB just navigate to the directory and push "adb install **target.apk"

wait--so we're clear: "C:\androidsdk\tools\>  adb install setcpu2.2.apk" will install the app? From all the posts I read, I thought att was much trickier than that....thanks man :)

That'll work, provided the .apk file is in C:\androidsdk\tools.  Otherwise, you'd have to type the folder path to wherever your saved .apk files are.

Awesome--i'm guessing that's what the wonder side-loading program does. Either way, rooted and running SRE1.2.3 now, so everything's all gravy--can't wait for the CM rom!

If I do this "lag fix" via the apk, how are the changes reversed before the new updates coming out soon? Just uninstall the apk? Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind, I answered my own question.

I removed the Mms.apk and the dex file but when I try to adb install the Mms.apk from cm, I get this:

Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]

I tried from 6.0-N1 and 6.1rc3. I'm on the XXJPH 2.2 froyo firmware. How can I get more information about this error?
