Hi All,
I've been trying to diagnose this all day and now I'm looking for some help. I can't get my phone to vibrate when I get a SMS or gmail or any other notification when it's in vibrate mode. I noticed this a few weeks ago but wasn't really using vibrate mode at the time. I first adjusted the settings to make sure it would vibrate all the time, in both general sound settings and then in messaging/gmail settings. It still did not vibrate. I tried re-downloading and flashing (including wiping to a factory reset of data) a fresh copy of CM7.1. Still nothing. I wiped, and flashed a Fresh ROM, and it finally worked. But I like CM so I am tried again to wipe and flash CM7.1. Nothing again. The only thing I didn't completely wipe tonight was the sdcard. Tomorrow if I can find the time i will be flashing cm7.0.9 to see if it works then. Has anyone had or heard of this issue with CM7.1? It seems that when in vibrate mode, the only time it will work is when an actual phone call will come though. Since I'm of the texting generation, I need a bit more than just phone calls vibrating on vibrate mode.
If anyone would like to view logs, Just PM me instructions on how to get the log you're looking for (I'm using Amon_Ra recovery).
Thanks everyone!

have you played with all the various haptic feedback options and the "vibrate during calls" option within cyanogenmod settings>sound?
i'm not sure if these will help but there are a lot of areas to dig around within the settings other than just going into vibrate mode. there are haptic feedback options tucked around everywhere.
i haven't given any attention to it myself, so i'm not sure if i get any vibrations when receiving a text or email notification. i'll experiment over the weekend and let you know if i find anything.

ok, so after experimenting with all the vibraton and haptic options within cm7 last night, i've discovered that cm7 does not dictate sound/vibrations for text and email notifications.
you'll need to go into your text and email apps and adjust the settings within each app. i did this with mine (handcent, yahoo, gmail) and all of my text and email notifications now give me vibrations. handcent was particularly cool because it even gives you a "test" option so that you don't have to have to send yourself a msg in order to check if it's working.
your general vibration settings within cm7 may affect these, but you'll still need to enable them within each app before cm7 will control how the phone vibrates between sound, sound+vib, vib, and silent.
hopes this works for you.

I had tried before based on forums in XDA and CM to adjust the settings via the individual programs. I have the phone general sound settings to vibrate always, I have gmail's and text messaging's program settings set to vibrate always. Still nothing.
What is Handcent? I have never see that before.
Thanks for your help!

handcent is a messaging app i prefer over stock. it has more customization options. have you checked all of the haptic feedback settings as well? there seems to be quite a few different setting areas within cm7 that have haptic control options.
-i'd start by making sure that "Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Interface>Notification power widget>Haptic Feedback" is set to the On option.
-check that "Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Input>Haptic feedback tweaks>Haptic feedback main" is enabled
-another area is "Settings>Sound>Haptic feedback", make sure this is enabled.
i'm not sure if any one or combination of these is the culprit, but i have them all enabled/on along with the options set within each app, and I get both sounds and vibrations from email and text notifications.
hope this helps you.

I've run through all of those settings above including
gmail>settings>account settings> labels to notify> Inbox> Vibration> always
Messaging> settings>notification settings>vibrate>always
and I still get nothing with a new text or email on any of the three sound settings (sound, vibrate, silent).
Just to reiterate, I'm running CM7.1.0 stable, Android 2.3.7, Kernel 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-01509g8913be8shade@toxygene #1. I have also used a Tiamat kernel with similar results.. Ie. no vibrations in sound or vibrate mode. Haptic feedback (when i press the capacative buttons such as home and menu) works fine. I have read other CM Evo forums when searching about this issues that this was an issue with CM6 but the fix was to just set the program (gmail, messaging) to vibrate. I have done that, still nothing. It worked fine when I was on the previous CM7.0 stable and I will be flashing back to that for a test run to see if it works again then. If it again works in CM7.0, should I submit a bug report to the developers?

sorry you're having such a tough time with this. i'm not sure why you're getting this conflict if you've tried the various options/settings. and i know you've re-flashed things as well.
i wiped my phone & sd completely clean before flashing cm7. i didn't care about loosing my stock rom or contacts, so i thought a fresh start was best for me. getting my few apps back from the market or amazon appstore was nothing major. if you haven't tried it, then maybe give it a shot after doing a backup and moving those files over to your desktop. i doubt there's something lingering on your phone or sd that's causing some type of conflict, but you never know.
if you still have no luck, then i'd say stick with your plan to flash back to the version of cm7 that worked for you.

So I flashed 7.0.3 (after a full data/cashe wipe, just not SD card since I can't back it up right now) And it didn't work then either. I flashed Fresh and it worked fine, so I know it's not hardware... I can't say why it's not working with any cyanogenmod rom I flash. I'm very disappointed frankly. I can check my phone at work when it's silent to see if I missed anything, but it's disappointing that it's not working. Thanks for your help. If anyone has any other tips to try with CM7.1, please let me know, such as if it's fixed in the nightlys. Thanks.

So, My tenacity doesn't allow for giving up on something so simple. I was able to find a solution, here are the steps I went through:
Problem: when I updated to CM7.1 around November/December, I noticed the vibrating notifications were no longer working. I had, at the time, just flashed the new OS, no wiping of caches or data.
Solution:
1. Out of frustration with the issue, over the weekend I backed up with nandroid then backed up my SD card on my computer.
2. I wiped everything available to wipe on the AmonRa recovery
3. I re partitioned my SD card (due to running out of space for the apps, probably not the cause of the siuation)
4. I flashed Fresh and updated my PRL, Profile, and WiMax as well as the GPS fix and backing up VVM with titanium back up
5. Nandroided JUST the WiMax and backed that and titanum backup onto my computer.
6. Wiped everything again, including the SD Card.
7. Installed CM7.1 and Gaps via the zip installer with AmonRA
8. tested out with gmail and had a friend text me... The vibrate mode worked!
9. reset up my SD card and settings, themes, ect.
So, I suspect, since wiping just data and cache had not previously solved the issue, that wiping the Dalvik-cache did the trick. I HIGHLY doubt that my SD card had anything to do with the issue. Thanks everyone for your help!

I had the same problem. Wiping Dalvik-cache worked.
