EVERYTHING is slow.  I installed the most popular cache/etc. cleaning utilities and no luck.  It's just slow.  Swiping, starting apps, you name it.  I'm thinking of trying out Replicant, but I don't think they even have the camera working!   So I wanted to try here first.

Any tips?

I tried out Replicant and it seemed faster.  I could live with the green tint and broken camera, but I need the proprietary WiFi firmware, so I switched back to 6.1.  Everything was zippy for about a day, and now I'm back to major slowness.  Like a 5-6 second delay between clicking home from certain apps (like the camera), then another 6-7 seconds for my home screen to display its icons!  Should I downgrade to an earlier Cyanogen?  Or are there some other ROMS out there that are more optimized for speed?

Same here. I modded my Rogers post-911 version yesterday. Before modding, the speed issue is not noticeable. But after the job, same issue as yekibud experienced.

I think I've found a solution. Go to "Settings" -> "CyanogenMod settings" -> "Performance settings" -> "Lock home in memory", tap it on. This at least saves me 6-7 seconds every time I switch on/off the foreground application.

You are awesome, jadecolour!  I did that and I think it's all I need to feel like my phone functions smoothly enough!  Yes, start-up times for some apps/features aren't super speedy (e.g. 5 secs for the camera, etc.) - but at least I don't have the 5-10 sec. delay to get home again!

You probably saved me about a day of hobbying I can spend on something else.  :-)  Thanks!
