I'm due for an upgrade today, and I really like Ice Cream Sandwich on the Galaxy Nexus I played with at the Verizon store. But while its hardware is impressive, it's not exactly state-of-the-art, especially the camera. I'm kicking around the idea of getting a phone that's more powerful hardware-wise and flashing an ICS ROM instead.

Are there any phones out today that beat the Galaxy Nexus in terms of hardware? Any that are likely to get CyanogenMod 9 earlier than others?

Thanks in advance!

The Rezound has promise, but i don't know about a dev backing at this point. I'm thinking i'll wait to see if the sgs3 comes to vzw. Rumors are an april release date, 1.5ghz quad procesor, 12mp camera, etc. If the rumors are accurate its a beast, lets just hope for vzw :-)

There are a couple of upcoming HTC phones with a lot of promise, the Ville & Edge.  The Edge, in particular, looks as if it'll have state-of-the-art hardware.

MPs are over-rated... I had an 8MP camera on my inc and have found the Gnex camera to be MUCH better.  Otherwise the hardware is about as good as it gets right now.  There will always be something better around the corner, but you can't wait for ever.

MP count doesn't matter anymore as the minimum is 5mp. On the other matters like color reproduction, JPEG compression, etc, Galaxy S2 is really doing better than Galaxy Nexus.

Yep. Megapixels really don't mean much. Both the Desire HD and Sensation have 8MP AF Camera but the Desire HD takes wayyyy better photos, especially in low light, due to the DHD having a bigger image sensor.
And apparently, the GNex's camera has poor colour reproduction("cool"er then usual) and poor low light performance. And it's 5MP :P

Thanks all for your suggestions - but after I played with the GNex at the Verizon store I was hooked :)
