Did you upgrade from ß2 or other rom?
Maybe you can do a clean install and see if it helps?

I just installed the beta today on my Epic and it's mostly awesome!  I have 2 issues so far: no swype and I can't add my Facebook account in Accounts & Sync.  It just shows the Facebook app startup screen and sits there. Is there a solution?

Neither of those are rom issues. Swype is only included as a particular version with the stock build for this device. If you want swype on an AOSP rom sign up for and download the beta. Facebook sync doesn't work because "Facebook" hasn't updated their mobile app to support contacts sync for ICS.

Use friendcaster for Facebook replacement. It is probably better than the official app and provides Facebook sync since Facebook doesn't appear to care to update to use the official sync API.
