Hi.

A while back, cyanogen was installed on my phone by a family member and I was never really sure what it did or why I needed it.  I'm struggling to familiarize myself with the phone modding process, but there's a few overwhelming problems on my phone and I'm not sure where to start:

1.  The phone has stopped mounting to Windows 7.

a.  There is no dropdown message asking for a mount on connection.

b.  Installing the google usb driver from the sdk pack did not resolve this issue.

c.  When trying to manually update the existing driver by browsing to the .inf file, the system will not update the driver, saying that the "the best software for your device is already installed."

d.  I tried reinstalling my android device through the device manager by right-clicking:  add legacy hardware >> Install hardware manually >> Select Android Phone which happened to be amongst my listed devices >> navigating to google sdk pack .inf and installing Android ABD Interface which now appears in device manager with a Yellow ! Triangle.  Rebooting the machine and phone did not resolve the issue and Android ADB Interface remains on my device list with that ! triangle.  Right clicking and updating software does not yield a resolution as I receive the message:  "The best software for your device is already installed."

e.  Unmounting and formatting the sd card did not resolve this issue.

f.  When plugging my phone into the computer I receive the message:   USB Device Not Recognized.  Browsing my device manager, it does not show up as a mass storage device, nor is there any mass storage option in my phone settings.

g.  My phone charges when plugged into the computer, so I don't suspect this to be a usb cable issue.

h.  usb debugging is enabled.

2.  When trying to open the Market, I receive the mssage:  The application Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly.  Please try again.

I would really like to just restore this phone to a factory rom and be done with it, but I can't connect my phone via usb to even start doing that. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

There is an image out there that will restore the phone, but I don't have a link to it.  You'll need to be a bit careful, and make sure that the radio & spl are at the correct level for it, they may well have been updated if you're running a Gingerbread rom.  Alternatively, a simpler solution (assuming you already have a Gingerbread rom and are running a 0013 spl) is to flash ezterry's Gingerbread rom.  It's as close to base Android as possible, with a few very minor (and useful) tweaks.  I installed it on my old MT3G a few weeks ago, and it performs very well.  Assuming you have the correct radio & spl, it's as simple as flashing the rom, flashing google apps and wiping, took me about 10 minutes.  To get it on your device without usb, I'd recommend Samba, which is a network sharing client.  Assuming you have a wireless network, install it from the market, and you'll be able to see the phone in Windows Explorer and copy files across (it's also significantly faster than usb in my experience).  Once you've tried it, you might decide you can live without usb anyway.  You can also just take out the sd card, stick it in the desktop, and copy files directly to it.

Having said all that, your usb issue is far more likely to be a Windows driver problem.  Get a copy of usbdeview (freeware) and uninstall all the Android drivers you see, reboot, then plug the phone back in.

Thanks for your reply!

I'll be plugging my sd card directly into my computer to xfer files so I can attempt to flash the device.
When I boot my phone in recovery it tells me the following:

HBOOT-1.33.0006
RADIO-2.22.19.26I

I'm guessing the spl is the 1.33.0006.
I found an image to restore it with, through the sdcard, but I got a model ID incorrect error.

Do I need to update my spl / radio?  And how can I do that?
