Hi all, new to this mod and rooting. Just some quick questions about Cyan on the NC if anyone would help me.

How do I delete apps that came with the mod but I will never need/use on a NC? Like "Camera", for example.

Is there any way to move or enlarge the navigation part of the status bar? It's in the bottom left-hand corner.
This is my only way to hit "back" and I am constantly hitting "search" accidentally which is right next to it. I wish this button was seperate or bigger or something. Can't seem to find this on UI settings. I can find the Dockbar settings but nothing to modify this one. Maybe there is an app that will add an extra button even?

Is it normal for the OS to hang? It seems to get bogged down after an hour or two, kinda like a memory leak. I've been watching the app usage etc. but I am not sure what is acceptable usage vs. unacceptable.

Well, I can't tell you exactly where to go remove this apps because I haven't bothered. Those apps are included, as I understand, to keep the Market from not showing some apps. I just ignore them.

As far as enlarging the status bar, I never found a way to do that, but I will recommend n app from the Market called Virtual Button Bar. It gives me buttons that I can resize, place where I want them and pop them out when I need them. I keep mine on the right, middle of my screen for my right thumb.

On the OS question, I found CM7 to work very smoothly. Do you have an emmc install or SD?  If SD, what kind?  That has a huge effect.

You do not want to go in and delete any apps that came with cyanogenMod. While the camera app does not work for the nook, since it has no camera, the app is tied into the android operating system. If you just want to delete the icon for some cosmetic reason you can do that with a different launcher then what comes with cyanogenMod, like the GO launcher on the android market.

If you want to enlarge the taskbar and the user interface of cyanogenMod or the default ADW launcher there is an app also on the android market called "LCD density app". Keep in mind there is a setting on this app you will have to use to access the android market. 240 DPI is a standard DPI for accessing the android market. So is 160 DPI, which in your case is the default DPI setting of the latest stable of cyanogenMod 7.1

Get another app called "cool tool" from the marketplace to watch your CPU usage. I have noticed on some cyanogenmod 7.1 stables for our nooks there is some sort of CPU spike that stays there at 100 percent on reboot; where the wi-fi button is not turning itself on from a deep sleep mode, where you have to go into the wi-fi settings of cyanogenmod and turn it on, then the CPU usage drops.

Some other students here using cyanogenMod 7.1 on their nooks reported that to me. If that is the case for you please let us know by starting a different thread about this issue in the experimental thread here for the nook color. I have held off reporting this as we are now getting into beta testing for ICS for our nooks with a stable ICS build on the way here shortly for an update to our nooks, and have not seen this come up in that android build.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can select a home button for your taskbar through the softkey menu options in the settings of cyanogenmod through the menu key on the taskbar to have it in your taskbar permanently . Go into the cyanogenMod settings through its icon in the app drawer >>CyanogenMod settings >> tablet tweaks >> choose soft- buttons.  Click on the ones you want in your taskbar.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have about 90 or so apps, all of the top apps for my nook on mine, like the facebook, google maps and the google star maps, all of the angry birds apps, Music apps and skins, book apps, live wallpaper, 10 or so home screen widgets on 5 home screens, ect.  here and my CPU on idle with no apps open  is only like 7 to 10 percent. So check and make sure your wifi is on and enabled while idle. If you do not want wifi turn it off in the settings.

~~~~~~~~~~ Hit that "like this" button in the bottom right hand corner please if this helped you.~~~~~~~~>>
If I want to try a competely fresh install, is it as simple as formatting my SDcard and re-doing the process?
Pretty much, yeah. So, I guess that answers my emmc or SD question. Is your SD card a sandisk class 4 card?
Edit:  I ask because the sandisk class 4 seems to give everyone the most success for SD installs and if you have another type, this could account for the hanging you mentioned in op.
Sorry yes, it is indeed an SD only install and I am using a Sandisk. I may try a reinstall, since it is early days and I am more familiar with the process now. I can basically format the card and not worry about anything in the Nook from what I read.
What version of CM7 is the most stable? I originally installed using this guide, but from the looks of it I may have installed a nightly build despite my intent not to as I tried to follow the instructions to a tee. http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1000957 Which could be the reason for hangs etc.
Or if you have a simple guide for an SDcard install, that doesn't get too complicated I would much appreciate it.
Sorry, reviewing it again I seemed to have used the 1.3 installer but with a non-nightly build. Which the thread appears to warn against here.
"(It is recommended to choose -87 nightly or later. If you plan to use prior version for initial install, stick with installer 1.2.1 for a different u-boot version)"
Not sure if this is a big issue or not.
Gotcha. That is Verygreen's method and that is what I used.  I'm now using an unofficial CM9 nightly on emmc, but I very happily used CM 7.1 stable on 16gb sd for quite a while. When you follow verygreen's  link to nightlies, just click "stable" link at the top of the list for the show only option. Download the signed stable 7.1 from there and you should be good.  Once you get the hang of it, his process is pretty simple. I'm not an expert by far and I can do it in my sleep in minutes at this point.
What build did you use?  Assuming you used one of the newest nightlies, your fine. That's just in case you wanted to for some reason go back and use a really old nightly build. If you used a nightly in the 200s your fine. 1.3 is also used for the 7.1 stable mod.
Hey can you recommend an easy way to back up my installation? Some people say I just need an image on a seperate SDcard with like, 2g space. Others say I need certain mods to do this and they lose me halfway through. Do I definately need to have another seperate SDcard though?
Personally I would just get titanium backup pro or my backup pro, I use mybackup.  Use this to back up your apps and data. Then if you need to redo something, pull your backups off the card to your computer, redo card from the beginning and move your backups back to SD and restore them. I tried to make an image of my card and write it to an identical card and it just wouldn't work. As I understand, cwm can't flash to an sdcard, so from backups are useless for SD installs.
when I had to redo, I just started over and let Google restore my apps automatically, then I would just get my settings in order.
So when I read about people having a backup image on another SDcard and popping that into their Nook when things go bad, are they talking about "true" rooted Nooks rather than SD installs? That way I can safely disregard such info. it in the future since I am using an SDcard install.
With Mybackup, can I do it after I have done the SD install and have everything running? Or do I have to do something with it before install, like run it at same time etc.? Is that the only real option for protecting my install?
I'd say you're probably reading about having a recovery card. I have a 2gb card for recovering the internal memory to stock if I need to. If you're running on sd the only real protection of your install is the easy ability to redo it if you need to.  Just save all of the install files on your computer so that you have them if you need them.
Mybackup will run backups whenever you want it too, after you're up and running.  It will only backup your apps and data, not the rom; but that's easy to redo anyway.
I have heard of people making exact duplicate images of their sd and being able to just reflash the card, but that never worked for me. Not a big deal though.
Yeah I see. By data you mean pictures, music, books etc too? If so then that is a good option and I will look into getting it. Although actually merging the backup data with a fresh install might prove difficult for me since I am new to this but i'm sure i'll figure it out.
Yep.  I don't keep much of that stuff on my nook anyway, and all of my books are attached to a reader app, so I don't have a lot to backup as far as data. Like I said, though, Google already had your apps backed up and should normally automatically restore them if you let it. I just do that.  I usually end up with a few of my phone specific apps too, but i just go back and uninstall then.
Good luck!!
