Few newbie questions

How do I delete apps that came with the mod but I will never need/use on a NC? Like "Camera", for example.
Is there any way to move or enlarge the navigation part of the status bar? It's in the bottom left-hand corner.
This is my only way to hit "back" and I am constantly hitting "search" accidentally which is right next to it. I wish this button was seperate or bigger or something. Can't seem to find this on UI settings. I can find the Dockbar settings but nothing to modify this one. Maybe there is an app that will add an extra button even?
Is it normal for the OS to hang? It seems to get bogged down after an hour or two, kinda like a memory leak. I've been watching the app usage etc. but I am not sure what is acceptable usage vs. unacceptable.

Well, I can't tell you exactly where to go remove this apps because I haven't bothered. Those apps are included, as I understand, to keep the Market from not showing some apps. I just ignore them.
As far as enlarging the status bar, I never found a way to do that, but I will recommend n app from the Market called Virtual Button Bar. It gives me buttons that I can resize, place where I want them and pop them out when I need them. I keep mine on the right, middle of my screen for my right thumb.
On the OS question, I found CM7 to work very smoothly. Do you have an emmc install or SD? If SD, what kind? That has a huge effect.

If you want to enlarge the taskbar and the user interface of cyanogenMod or the default ADW launcher there is an app also on the android market called "LCD density app". Keep in mind there is a setting on this app you will have to use to access the android market. 240 DPI is a standard DPI for accessing the android market. So is 160 DPI, which in your case is the default DPI setting of the latest stable of cyanogenMod 7.1
Get another app called "cool tool" from the marketplace to watch your CPU usage. I have noticed on some cyanogenmod 7.1 stables for our nooks there is some sort of CPU spike that stays there at 100 percent on reboot; where the wi-fi button is not turning itself on from a deep sleep mode, where you have to go into the wi-fi settings of cyanogenmod and turn it on, then the CPU usage drops.
Some other students here using cyanogenMod 7.1 on their nooks reported that to me. If that is the case for you please let us know by starting a different thread about this issue in the experimental thread here for the nook color. I have held off reporting this as we are now getting into beta testing for ICS for our nooks with a stable ICS build on the way here shortly for an update to our nooks, and have not seen this come up in that android build.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can select a home button for your taskbar through the softkey menu options in the settings of cyanogenmod through the menu key on the taskbar to have it in your taskbar permanently . Go into the cyanogenMod settings through its icon in the app drawer >>CyanogenMod settings >> tablet tweaks >> choose soft- buttons. Click on the ones you want in your taskbar.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have about 90 or so apps, all of the top apps for my nook on mine, like the facebook, google maps and the google star maps, all of the angry birds apps, Music apps and skins, book apps, live wallpaper, 10 or so home screen widgets on 5 home screens, ect. here and my CPU on idle with no apps open is only like 7 to 10 percent. So check and make sure your wifi is on and enabled while idle. If you do not want wifi turn it off in the settings.
~~~~~~~~~~ Hit that "like this" button in the bottom right hand corner please if this helped you.~~~~~~~~>>
Pretty much, yeah. So, I guess that answers my emmc or SD question. Is your SD card a sandisk class 4 card?
Edit: I ask because the sandisk class 4 seems to give everyone the most success for SD installs and if you have another type, this could account for the hanging you mentioned in op.
What version of CM7 is the most stable? I originally installed using this guide, but from the looks of it I may have installed a nightly build despite my intent not to as I tried to follow the instructions to a tee. http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1000957 Which could be the reason for hangs etc.
Or if you have a simple guide for an SDcard install, that doesn't get too complicated I would much appreciate it.
"(It is recommended to choose -87 nightly or later. If you plan to use prior version for initial install, stick with installer 1.2.1 for a different u-boot version)"
Not sure if this is a big issue or not.
What build did you use? Assuming you used one of the newest nightlies, your fine. That's just in case you wanted to for some reason go back and use a really old nightly build. If you used a nightly in the 200s your fine. 1.3 is also used for the 7.1 stable mod.
when I had to redo, I just started over and let Google restore my apps automatically, then I would just get my settings in order.
With Mybackup, can I do it after I have done the SD install and have everything running? Or do I have to do something with it before install, like run it at same time etc.? Is that the only real option for protecting my install?
Mybackup will run backups whenever you want it too, after you're up and running. It will only backup your apps and data, not the rom; but that's easy to redo anyway.
I have heard of people making exact duplicate images of their sd and being able to just reflash the card, but that never worked for me. Not a big deal though.
Yep. I don't keep much of that stuff on my nook anyway, and all of my books are attached to a reader app, so I don't have a lot to backup as far as data. Like I said, though, Google already had your apps backed up and should normally automatically restore them if you let it. I just do that. I usually end up with a few of my phone specific apps too, but i just go back and uninstall then.
Good luck!!
