Hi,

I'm having a Nook Color running CM 7.1.0 stable. I'm having real difficulty connecting to my university campus wifi problem. Here's the detail:

1. My campus WIFI network appears not to have any security (like an open network) but once my NC successfully connected WITH an IP address, it will require me to enter my username and password (particular to each and every student.) on the web browser. Only after that could I freely browse

2. The strangest thing is that my laptop and my other tablet (Creative Ziio) had to through the same process (connect to the campus network, then authenticate by entering my username and password). However, my NC DID NOT AND DOESN'T require me to authenticate at all. It just connects to the internet and let me browse...

3. This later leads to a problem. The Internet is up for about several minutes, then down, then up again, down and the cycle repeats. I notice that after I set my device to sleep and the next morning when I woke up, the Internet would most probably be down. Subsequently it would freezes the very first time I flash (or reflash) a new CM7 firmware

4. I have tried multiple methods: change the wifi sleep policy, use SET DNS PRO to change the DNS, set static IP address, try out other stable CM7 versions AND the latest nightly build, even flash CM9... all to no avail.

5. It's interesting to take note that the STOCK AND ROOTED B&N ORIGINAL FIRMWARE (either 1.3.0 or 1.4.1) WORKS FINE. Although once again, it strangely doesn't ask me to authenticate, the internet is very stable, no flickering observed.

This leads me to the conclusion that the CM7 firmware DOESN'T FULLY SUPPORT ALL KINDS OF WIFI NETWORKS yet. Therefore, I'd really appreciate if those directly involved could fix this issue in the subsequent release.

Thank you very much.

This could be a problem with your campus wireless captive portal. I know a few products dont seem to work well if at all with android devices. Your device probably appears differently to the AP if you are running CM or stock. Have you tried using a different browser? Anyone else on campus have issues with wireless on an android device? You could also try contacting your helpdesk and see if the network guys have any ideas.

Thanks for your response

I've already tried different browser and they all bypassed the wireless captive portal. I even entered the URL of the captive portal on the browser URL but it just redirected me to the University homepage without allowing me to enter my username and passwords!

The IT helpdesk wasn't of much help either :(

Actually my previous tablet running Android 2.2 was able to browse the Internet seamlessly without any problems. It allowed me to enter my username and password on the captive portal.

So I think the problem with my Nook Color has something to do with CM7 itself. Different versions of CM7 don't seem to help as I have painfully figured out.

Any further assistance from the developer would be greatly appreciated.
