Hello,

I've had an annoying issue recently where the phone (LG O2X P990) will lose signal for no reason even in good signal areas (I live 200 yards from an O2 tower and get full signal at all times).

The only way to get signal back is to either reboot or enter airplane mode and then turn it off again (airplane mode doesn't always work).

I suspected it was the SIM card so I have got a replacement but the same problem is still occurring.

I've tried the latest stable and the various recent nightlies and they all do the same thing. Could this be a hardware issue? It doesn't seem to do it when I'm using the phone, only when it's on standby (screen off).

I'm reluctant to wipe it and start from fresh because I've got it set up just as I like (which took ages) but needs must if anyone believes this will solve the problem.

Any ideas anyone? I can't go back to the stock ROM as I can't find a copy and when I do there are several versions and I don't know which one to get. I'd rather not attempt it and end up bricking the phone.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I have the same problem. Can't remember if I had the problem with the stock rom, probably because it was absolutely littered with all sorts of issues; this one might have drowned in all that mess.

I've been on nightly 204 since it was released in November, and have seen dropped connection from time to time. When updating to nightly 220 the other day, it seems to have gotten worse. It now looses signal several times a day. Sometimes it connects by itself, but often needs reboot or toggling flight mode.

Not really any help, but at least you're not the only one :P

OK since this post I've done a few things:

1. Backed up with CWM, cleared all the partitions, restored.
2. Set the preferred network type to "GSM/WCDMA (WCDMA preferred)" instead of "GSM/WCDMA (auto-mode)".

And since then it hasn't dropped the signal and required a reboot/airplane mode on/off. It has dropped signal but only because it was poor while I'm in work. It's always got it back within a minute or two on it's own.

So I believe there may be a bug in the auto switching code that causes it to hang the mobile module.

It's worth a try. If you can replicate the same then we might have a case.

It's good to know it's not my hardware though :)

I used to have this problem, but with recent kang builds, it seems to have been fixed.

Fingers crossed anyway.

CM7_223 fixes an issue that might be related to this. The issue has to do with automatic time and some carriers sending time info in an unanticipated format that could crash the phone app... Doing the update now and keeping fingers crossed!

I've actually turned off auto time after seeing it could be a factor, but I'll update today anyway and see how it goes.

This is worse with the latest nightly. I've been without signal most of the day because of the problem. :( Please someone get this fixed!

Sorry to hear that. I've had better luck as I haven't lost signal all day -- my phone signal has been varying from green to gray-ish yellow with no reds at all...

I'm testing it now with data off and 2G only to see if it still happens.

I also have automatic network time disabled which was supposed to be a factor according to some people.

Mine has been fine all day today with data and 3g turned off, so 2G only... Half leads me to believe there is an issue switching between 2G and 3G that's causing it.

I've installed a new baseband today so I'm giving that a go. Will let you know how I get on.

Where did you find that, and how did you do it? Noticed any difference?

Pretty sure it was this one:

http://android.modac...5-v20l-version/

I used the latest one

I did a backup to my SD with CWM, then followed the instructions on that page. I made sure to remove my SD card before doing it incase it got wiped. Once done put the card back in, it'll reboot loop a few times but a reset (battery out/in) fixes that and for me it booted into the last RC of Cyanogen I used. How I don't know. Anyway I managed to restore my ROM and it seems to work fine.

No noticeable difference but it hasn't dropped signal randomly yet, except in work where signal is very poor anyway.

It's been 2 days without a drop now, so this may have solved the problem... I'll update again soon.

The latest baseband on that site is--as far as I can tell--the same as the one that came with LG's stock GB (1035.21_20110725), which is the one I have! I still get occasional drops, but they are quite rare; since my post on the 20th I've had one or two...

Still not had a single drop myself so it seems to have resolved it :) Anyone who has issues should consider updating too. Mine was out of date, it was using one from February.

Andywhy, what's your status with the issue? Still having drops? Sadly I still am, and they seem to have become more frequent as of late....

I just found this thread about what seems to be the same issue. I installed the getril app as suggested, and it reports that my RIL and baseband are incompatible. Might explain it....

EDIT: Also, check out this thread on XDA about mismatching baseband/RIL, interesting stuff!

Cheers,
N

I would have replied earlier but this site has been a joke speed wise recently. It's just taken me 15 minutes to login. I only bothered because you asked :)

I've not had any issues since the baseband update really. I did have to do it a 2nd time as I'm sure a ROM I used messed it up and made it revert but I'm not sure. Anyway it's working now, my only problem is the lack of signal at work which rapes it still. O2 won't do anything about it as they say outdoor coverage is perfectly fine so it's not their fault indoors isn't?!

Anyway, good luck :)
