mounting external_sd on CM9 nightly

Is it possible to mount the external sd that is currently mounted under /mnt/emmc under /mnt/sdcard/external_sd instead? I have tried creating a symlink (won't work as the internal sd is vfat formatted), a mount bind (looks like the scripts under /etc/init.d do not get run), and by editing /system/etc/vold.fstab (no noticeable effect).
