Hi, all,

I'm not very into the details of flashing CM, but here is all steps I did for CM7.1:

fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1-CM.img
sending 'recovery' (3380 KB)... OKAY
writing 'recovery'... OKAY

fastboot flash radio passion.radio-5.08.00.04-signed\radio.img
sending 'radio' (26112 KB)... OKAY
writing 'radio'... OKAY

bootloader-recovery, trackball to flash zip
1) Format-signed.zip
2) update-cm-7.1.0-N1-signed.zip
3) gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

I did this on top of stock gingerbread of Nexus One. It worked well most of the times, but I do have occassional auto reboots (at most a couple times a day).
I do NOT use any app converting SD to internal memory. I do try to move some apps to SDcard using the CM built-in manager.

I understand the auto reboot is probably not because I did not do a "clean install" of everything.

I plan to spend a couple of hours fixing the auto reboot problem, and appreciate input on the following:

1) Is the lack of 'clean install' the cause of all my problems?

2) If so, could someone please point me to a all-inclusive list of steps I shall do, given I have now CM7.1 running (with some auto reboots).

3) Shall I wait for CM7.2 release? use CM7.2 RC? or just use CM7.1 release? (or wait for CM9 icecream sandwich unofficial release?)

Thanks  A LOT!!

Well, I don't know what is included in your format.zip, but if it doesn't wipe your /system partition, then it is not a clean install and could very well cause you auto-reboots. Unfortunately, Amon_RA's recovery doesn't provide an option to wipe the /system partition, so you need to do that by flashing a zip that will wipe it for you. temasek has created one and I know it used to be found at http://mediafire.com/temasek (been a while since I looked and that site is blocked at work). It was named something along the lines of system-only format. I would flash that, and then perform the Factory Reset/Data Wipe option found in recovery. The only other thing you could wipe to give you a completely fresh start would be your sdcard.

I have been running the 7.1 release basically since the release and haven't had any issues with it auto-rebooting. (In fact, right now it is at 535 hours without a reboot... that is over 22 days) I know the newer releases have included some ICS features into Gingerbread, but I haven't taken the time to check them out.

Thanks, bassmadrigal!

So basically, I shall just replace the format.zip with the format-system-only.zip (yes, the link still works) and do the other as before? I remember doing the Reset/wipe under the Amon_RA (following the formal procedure from the wiki), but I suppose that's not 'thorough' enough according to your input.

I did a 'dirty' flash of 7.2 RC1 (not wiped, etc; no need to install any app again), and it seems to be working fine so far.
Should I see any rebooting problem again, I will do 'clean' install of cm7.2 RC1.

Thanks again.

No problem.

But yes, all you should need to do is flash the fomat-system-only.zip file and then perform the Factory Reset/Data Wipe. From there, your phone will be completely empty (well, minus your sdcard... it will only clear the app2sd stuff out). So then you just need to install CM and gapps and you should be good to go.
