Music was decent, not as good as the CM7 one, but still would get the job done in a modest way.

CM Music (pre-Apollo builds) was okay too - interface was vastly improved, but it used to hog battery and CPU and become laggy after playing a few pieces.

Apollo - A CM app with no settings o_O (especially when it HAD a lot of settings earlier), very twisted and buggy UI/screens, and with LESS (functional) features than before.

That is the way the developer felt that the program should go. There are countless choices for music players on the playstore if this one doesn't suit your needs. There is no one universal player that has all the features that everyone wants. Everybody has their own tastes.

I know, I checked his blog and commented on his G+ posts too. I thought Cyanogenmod was supposed to be about user experience and taking and implementing feedback.

Also, my frustration occurred because of the constant backward-stepping on the music app. I don't (and didn't) mean any offence, but honestly, if you compare the music app that came along with CM7 and what is there now, I doubt you'll disagree with me.

I haven't used a stock music player for pretty much the whole time I have used Android. I use PowerAMP because I am not satisfied with the stock players.

From my understanding, the developer was trying to get an app very similar to Google Music (although, I have no idea how this compares... I only used Google Music when it first came out to see what it was like).

Either way, the developers of CyanogenMod don't frequent the forum. This is more for user help and troubleshooting. You are certainly welcome to voice your opinion here, but, unfortunately, there is no guarantee that any one who can actually change the app will see it.

Will the player get a tablet optimized UI? On my phone its nice, but on my tablet there is huge unused space.

I use PowerAmp, but I like Apollo also. Is it possible for Apollo to play Flac, Ape and Cue files?

I agree it is a nightmare. Released as beta in the Play Store, with no free software license with no ability to play streams or open local file uris. I haven't tried a lot of music apps, I try to stick to free software, but this app seems to me to be way too similar to Vanilla Music which is a lot more mature. Andrew probably isn't aware sadly as the version of Vanilla on the Play Store is 18 months old! If you are happy with MIT license, Andrew you should definitely merge the project with those guys.

I agree this was not ready to be made the default player. It is by far the most unstable and uncomfortable to use component of my CM9 install. Apollo crashes regularily. Scrolling in Apollo is an absolute pain. Apollo sucks my battery dry in no time at all. The pictures it shows on my artist view are just chaos, pictures get re-used and switched around constantly while scrolling. Almost every single artist's name is shortened on a Galaxy S2 display! "The Beatles" and "The Beach Boys" both become, believe it or not, "The Bea...". Every artist named beginning with "Johnny" is reduced to "Johnny...". Then it crashes some more.

Problem with switching: The default player really gets integrated nicely, with default lock screen widget for example.

I can't even get the app to recognize any music on my handset... (original Galaxy S) I have music on both internal and external SD, and only a few MP3 ringtones are enumerated, and even then I have to search for an artist - returning 0 results, even though the files are on my device - and go back in order to have the ringtones show up.

Of course, there is no utility for forcing a scan of your system for music files, nor for designating a default music folder. The settings are laughable. There is no help menu, of course. I even messaged the Dev on G+ in the hopes that he might show me the error of my ways, and got no reply.

Normally my response at this point would be uninstall, but this is baked into CM9 and it's annoying to have it show up every time I flash a new nightly.

I hope someone can help me with this problem, or at least share a similar experience so I can know I'm not doing/not doing something epically noob.

I'm developing an out of proportion hate for this app that sits on my device as the default music player and does sweet FA! It has been the ONLY negative experience so far with CyanogenMod, but it's driving me effing nuts.

Btw., for anyone who is as annoyed by this thing as I am: I just discovered installing Google Play Music gives you the same lockscreen/notification integration as Apollo, but without all the wrong covers, the inablility to scroll, and the clutter ("Illuminate your music", what the @%&)*?).

If GPM is not available in your country you can use the market enabler to install it.
