I'm having issues where the lock screen and the little battery indicator show charging, however when I go into the battery status, it says "not charging".

I went with the official samsung/google dock. I got it off the google play store online. It is meant for the GSM version however, with some modifications (for some just slight but for me major) it works with our CDMA phones as well.
The benefit is that once you plop the phone in, the phone charges and the audio plays out through the connections supplied by the dock.
I have mine hardwired with a power source and AUX cable tucked behind my dash. Another benefit is that the phone charges at A/C levels so even whilst navigating with the screen on, you actually gain charge on the phone unlike most USB chargers where the power drain is faster than the charge rate.
I just wish they came out with one that fit for our phones without any mods.

2) To the OP, I have noticed that getting my gnex to charge with the GSM dock is very intermittent... sometimes it actually charges, sometimes it says "not charging." I always put it in the same way, so I wouldn't think that the pins aren't connecting correctly... but maybe that IS the issue I'm having. So, I'm curious: what modifications did you make exactly? The only mods I made were to the dock's volume rocker buttons. I THOUGHT I was successful, as the phone's volume now doesn't change on its own, and the dock's volume buttons perform as they should... but I'm guessing you made some other major mods. Please share!

So somehow during my install I fubard the wiring, so I had to buy another dock... yes it was a VERY expensive mistake, but whatever, you live and you learn.
Anyway, my second dock functions with the phone just fine without any mods. My guess is the manufacturing tolerances on the dock are not that tight.

Cheapest I've been able to find, and works great after the volume rocker mod that can be seen here.
I didn't experience any of the problems that were mentioned in the comments section of the video. When you get it, you will see that inside of the volume rocker actually has a frame surrounding the original cut, just file it or shave it with a small knife (I used a swiss army knife) to hit that surrounding frame. After you do that, the volume rocker should move fluidly with a satisfying click as you press it.
Let me know if you guys have any questions, since it's still fresh in my mind from doing it a couple days ago. =D

I'm still running stock (new phone), and the vehicle dock is basically garbage for playing music. Android 4.1.2 maxes and locks the media volume when it's mounted in the dock. The music ends up sounding distorted and crackly through the car speakers.
Does CM10 work with the dock? When you plug it in, does it allow you to adjust the media volume with the volume buttons? It's really becoming a dealbreaker for me.
