#1. I already answered in your other topic. For SMS messages, I use Handcent which allows me to choose 3 long vibrations whenever I get a message.
#2. There is no need. Just install right over the old version, no wipe needed (although, I always recommend performing a nandroid backup... just in case).
#3. It should work. What steps did you follow to install CM?
#4. I don't think there is any list because the changes have been massive. What settings are you not sure on?

Sorry. I've never tried to change my ringer vibration (at least not since my old Samsung days with something like amr files). I am not sure of any app that can change the ringer vibration.
And yes, just flash over the old one, no wipe needed. You actually have two main partitions (kinda like harddrives under windows). The first, which is the /system partition, only holds your Android/CyanogenMod OS. Once it is installed, it is actually marked read-only to prevent unauthorized changes. Then you have your /data partition. This holds all your settings, apps, and app data. When you reinstall CM, it will wipe your /system partition (after it backs up your gapps) and then it will essentially copy the new version of CM onto the /system partition. So your data remains completely untouched.

Since my GPS isn't working either (unless it takes more than 20 minutes to get a location - that's the longest I've managed to wait), please don't mind if I resume the call for help from where he stopped. Here's my installation procedure: I rooted my phone, installed clockworkmod from the Market, backed up my ROM, did a factory reset, downloaded CM and installed it from the sd card.
