Hi everyone,
I'm currently using cyanogenmod 7.1 on my Milestone, with still plenty of problems unfortunately (launcher redraw, camera freezes and low quality, general lag everywhere, 3g superhot temperatures).
I hope I'll solve some of this with the new version, but I saw the procedure is set for clockwork mod recovery, which I have not.
I've installed it but he prompts me to select from a Motorola defy or a photon 4g, both not my phone.
Can you help me doing this with openrecovery?

The process shouldn't be much different with OpenRecovery. Just boot into recovery, make a nandroid backup, and then I would suggest formatting the /system partition (in CWM it is located under the Mounts and Storage menu - and this doesn't cause any data loss, just makes sure your install is clean), followed by installing CM 7.2 and gapps.

I saw the file I downloaded is not an update zip but cm-72 zip, now in fact my recovery cannot see the cm-72 version.
The function on the recovery I can use to flash the mod is "apply update" and that doesn't see the cm zip package for the version 7.2
Should i have been waiting an update zip?

No, all that was done on the CM side was renaming the files to remove some extra unneeded text (like upgrade and signed). The files are still the normal CM install.
As for OpenRecovery, if it doesn't give you the option to select the zip from the recovery, than it most likely won't work. But if you used OpenRecovery to put your old CM version on it, then it should be more than capable to put this one on. On ClockworkMod, it is something like Select Zip to Install -> Choose zip from sdcard. (You might be trying the apply update.zip which won't work.)

Ok, yesterday night I was close to destroy my phone, cause I applied some overclock and memory management from the recovery and when rebooting it was failing and failing. Fortunately I could open the recovery again, wype everything and put again the cyano 7.1.1 kang.
Now It's superfast, probably I'll take it this way for some time until I'll get to solve this situation (I'm asking clockwork modders to help me too).

Ok, I've found what was wrong (still not enough)
The cyanogenmod must be put in the folder "Updates" (literally) of the folder "Openrecovery" in the sd. I've also took the chance to update the openrecovery that was a bit old. Let's see if it works now..hmm bootloader error.
Screen is black after moto logo, then says, Bootloader, 90,78, err:a5,69,35,00,23
Battery ok, ok to program, connect usb, data cable (I didn't connect the cable though)

Unfortunately i have the same problems.
It ist the same with the stable version of cm 7.2. First i hoped it was a problem with the RC3.
I cannot find my mistake.
I describe my way to upgrade. Hopefully you could help me to find the mistake.
I have the motorola droid and downloaded the stable version of cm-7.2.0-sholes and saved it on sdcard in the folder sd/openrecovery/update
I start open recovery. openrecovery version 1.46 Mod Version MiniMod V 0.08 created by. -FuFu-
I wiped cacha, dalvik and data.
then i apply update, choose the zip above and the installation of cm 7.2 started and completed sucessfully.
After i reboot the system it appear a black screen.
Bootloader
90.78
Err: A5, 69, 35, 00, 23
Battery ok
Ok to Program
Transfer Mode USB
After reboot system it appears a picture with a "!" and "little smartphone".
Only with difficulties I can start recovery and restore system.
What is the problem?
Who can help me?
Thanks

I have had the same problem as "XDA 2"
i even tried the first time method of custom roms, using rsd lite etc, and still i get the same error in the boot loader screen after reboot from OR
Does anyone know why this is happening, I am using a motorola milestone from telus unlocked rooted and currently running this cm version :
update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-umts_sholes-KANG-signed
and i am trying to update to this one downloaded from this site under the milestone stable build page :
cm-7.2.0-sholes

From the filenames and errors mentioned above, at least some of you guys have a Milestone A853.
CyanogenMod has never officially supported any version of the Milestone (A854 nor A853) nor Milestone2.
CyanogenMod has ONLY ever officially supported the Verizon Droid (sholes A855) as mentioned in the announcements at the top of each Droid subforum.
If you have an A853 Milestone then you are probably running the port located here: http://android.doshaska.net/
Again, the device is not supported by CM and builds are not generated by CM. If you have questions specific to that build, they have an FAQ as well as an issue tracker.
At one time there was a thread spelling all of this out but it has been lost to the forum pruning gods. However, the number of Milestone questions as of late has made me think about redoing it. We shall see.
