After several attempts, the Google app package will not completely install after flashing CM 7.2 - the only one that installs is Search, no Gmail or anything else, and I can't register my account either.  Anyone else having this problem?

Gmail isn't included with the gapps package. You download it from the market. The only things included with the gapps package are the market (which will be upgraded when you connect to the internet), GTalk, Search, News and Weather, Car Home, and the required libraries and such needed to run them (I think that is all). Everything else needs to be downloaded from the playstore.

And what issues are you having with registering your account?

I'm having the same logon/register issue, after first boot, I try to add my google account and it just keeps saying wrong username/password. I do use the 2-step authentication, if that matters at all.

Thanks.

Yes, this is probably a 2-step authentication issue. When you are using 2-step authentication, from what I remember, you need to get an application password, a generated password that can be used on devices and other programs that do not know how to handle 2-step authentication.

Take a look at this link, it has an example at the bottom and instructions and other stuff.

I know of the app specific password, just didnt think of trying that since Ive never previously had that issue. Maybe I'll try again and do that. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm having the exact same problem, there wasn't a google app package in the latest stable version of cyanogen. When trying to sync an account there is only the option for Exchange not one for google. I've attempted to download the Market/Google Play but it tells me I need to add an account first before it will open but I haven't found anywhere to do so. Google is completely missing from my phone after getting CyanogenMod 7.2.0 on it.

You have to flash gapps to your phone after the rom. Cyanogen was given a cease and desist and can't include the apps in the rom. Check goo.im

I had a similar issue after upgrading.  Before the upgrade from 7.1 I did a full wipe of cache, battery stats, and dalvik, and a factory reset, installed 7.2 and gapps.  I kept getting notices of GTalk signin failure.  I couldn't download anything in the Market, and even when going to the Play store online I couldn't install anything. I did another factory reset in Recovery, signed in again, and this time started downloading Maps from the Market before proceeding with setup, and everything is installing fine now.
