Google Voice Behavior With A Number In A Text

I've got two phones here: one stock and one CM7.

If someone texts me via GV like "Text John on 12345678" the phones behave differently when I tap the number in the message:

The stock phone opens GV compose (as I'd expect) but the CM7 phone goes straight to the dialer and I cannot figure out how to send a text instead. It's really annoying and I can't even copy the number - only the whole message text.

Ideas anyone?
