So I'm fairly new to android and I rooted my phone today. I also wanted to try the cyanogen 9 rom and I installed it via rom manager. After rom manager did its thing and rebooted the phone, my phone wouldn't actually go past the boot screen. It's stuck on that cyanogen 9 robot boot screen. It's been on this screen for 30+ minutes and I don't know how to get out of it or past it. My phone is currently not functional. Someone please help.

What ROM were you using before you flashed the cyanogenmod ROM?

I was using the stock rom I guess. This was the very first rom I tried to install on my phone after I rooted the phone. I had very little experience doing this.

Back when CM9 was unofficial KANG on the T989 I had a similar issue that turned out to be cache formatting related. So relax we'll get you through this. Fist of all, the questions.
1. what version of CM9 did you flashed i.e. RC2 or nightly?
2. what version of clockworkmod do you have installed?
3. Did you wipe cache and if so how, via clockworkmod or darkside.cache.wipe

OK lets start there :)

I had the same situation, turns out the way I solved my problem was to use both darkside cahe wipe and dark side super wipe. Then flashed the ROM and gapps and so far everything has been great!. Hope this helps

Yes, I have that problem on my Hercules, and Darkside wipe does get around the issue, but it is a recurring issue. I factory reset my CM9 RC2 in the System Settings > Backup & Reset, and it gets stuck on the splash screen on reboot. So I have to run Darkside wipe again for the first boot. Might be something wrong with the Cache wipe in the CWM recovery, or something wrong with the CM9 package itself.

I am having the same problem that it doesn't boot up. And even when I restore to my old ROM, I was running Darkside Evolution 3 v7 it never shuts off. The lights at the phone stay on and I have to remove the battery. when I boot up into Clockwork Recovery I get an error that says: "error in /cache/recovery/last_log". I've looked around but I haven't found a definitive answer. Any help?

Sounds like an unclean backup/flash...I would recommend that you flash stock rom and try to root again...

I'll take a stab at some basic instructions for clearing this issue up.  This is actually the process you should follow when flashing CM9 on the GSII.  It assumes you have ClockworkMod Recovery installed already.

1) From ClockworkMod Recovery, do a backup of your current ROM.
2) Shut the phone off, remove the SD card and put it in your computer.
3) Backup the contents of the SD card to your computer.
4) From your computer, reformat the SD card.  Format it as FAT32.  Don't argue about this being an inconvenient step, just do it to avoid potential issues.
5) Download DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE and DARKSIDE.CACHE.WIPE. A Google search should find them for you on the xda-developers forums... the thread title says "discontinued" but that just means the developer isn't actively working on the scripts.  They still work, though.
6) Copy both SGH-T989_DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE_EXT4.zip and SGH-T989_DARKSIDE.CACHE.WIPE.zip to your freshly formatted SD card.
7) Download the version of CM9 you want to install (I would recommend CM9.1 at this time).
8) Copy cm-9.1.0-hercules.zip to the SD card.
9) Download GAPPS for CyanogenMod 9 from http://wiki.cyanogen...ion/Google_Apps
10) Copy gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip to the SD card.
11) Put the SD card back into the phone.
12) Boot the phone into ClockworkMod Recovery.
13) Choose to install zip from SD card.
14) Select the SGH-T989_DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE_EXT4.zip file to install.
15) Once it has finished install cm-9.1.0-hercules.zip
16) After that has finished, install gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip.
17) After that has finished, install SGH-T989_DARKSIDE.CACHE.WIPE.zip.
18) After that has finished, reboot.  The first boot will take a a minute or two as it builds the Dalvik cache.  If it sits on the CM9 boot animation for more than 5 minutes, something went wrong and you should make sure that you followed these steps exactly.

I would recommend posting in the appropriate forum for your device.  This is the Samsung Galaxy S II Hercules forum.

I ran into the same problem, but the superwipes didn't fix it.  I went back to stock (2.3.6), updated "officially" to ICS through Kies, then ran through the install (using Odin3 instead of Heimdall (which never worked for my device)) and it worked fine.  When it was doing the Kies update, there was mention of new firmware for the radio, which I think is what was causing the issues.  I wrote a step-by-step over in the stable forums.

Thanks Cloudscout... followed instructions with the exception of formatting the SD card and installing CM 9/used CM 10 M2.

I went to CM10 M2 was smooth as silk.

Up and running now on CM 10 and enjoying.  Some great features on the ROM!!!!  It's so nice not to have the #dumbeddown version ROM provided by the maker/carrier.  Freedom has never felt so good!!!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this! My wife's phone (stock) started to spontaneously reboot and get stuck in a loop. Our warranty expired 3 weeks ago, so I decided I'd just root it and try to put CM on it as a last ditch effort before getting a new phone. After trying CM9 and CM10 (following the instructions in the CM wiki), I was running into the issue the OP has - stuck on the cyanogen boot animation screen.

I followed your steps (except substituting CM10 and CM10 gApps) and her phone (fingers crossed) appears to be functional again. We've gone from ready to buy a new phone, to a better phone than before!

Thank you!

Just wanted to say thank you. Sorry if I bump/necro an older thread, but your solution fixed my boot-loop immediately. Thank you so much!
