Hi,
I am using CM9 RC2 on GS2. I am trying to add a dictionary for bilingual use. It looks like it is not possible.
I can add many custom dictionaries for any language, but I have to chose only one main language/dictionary for spelling.
Is there a workaround for that?
Thanks,
OddHat

Hi!

I've taken a look at the system settings, and you seem to be correct: while you can install as many languages as you want, you can only use one dictionnary at a time with the Android's spelling correction tool. You can change the spelling language for every text input field, but you can only chose one at a time.

I.e. you have installed both English and French language files, and you want to write a new SMS to a friend. When writing your SMS:
  - you can select the English dictionnary. Spell-checker will work in English only. If you write French words, they will be marked as incorrectly spelled;
  - you can select the French dictionnary. Spell-checker will work in French only. If you write English words, they will be marked as incorrectly spelled;
  - you cannot use both dictionnaries at the same time. You can only use one or the other for this SMS.

To have the ability to select which dictionnary to use when writing in a text input:
  • Go to System settings > Languages & input;

  • Press the preferences' button next to Spelling correction;

  • Next to Android correction, there is a button in a shape of planet Earth. Press this button;

  • Check the language you want your spell checker to use.

  • Repeat the above steps to change the spell checker's dictionnary again.
I guess one wat to circumvent this limitation could be to create a new dictionnary that contains all the words from the dictionnaries you would like to use, but I can't help on that.
