Hey guys,

I am experiencing this problem since CM6 RC1, even in the final it's not fixed.
All my music is shown as "Unknown Artist". If I sort by albums, I can choose the music, but the ID3 tags are not 100% as they should be.

I mean yeah, I could live with that, but my main problem is that that music app slows down the entire phone!
I can not do anything else, cause my phone is so slow when listening to music.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? I found a topic about that related to RC1, but the issue is still there.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance (;

Try downloading MP3tag for your computer, and running your mp3 through it, putting the tags on ID3 v3 AND ID3 v2

it worked for me on 1.6 a while back, as it had trouble with some id3v3 tags, and the switch to v2 fixed it, should really be able to handle it on 2.2 though.

My mp3's all got ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags. And the weird thing is, that (slower) music apps from the market identify my mp3's without any problem.
In addition, in RC3 I believe, some mp3's were listed correctly.

Any other suggestions?

I experienced the EXACT same problem on the nighlies a few weeks ago. Basically, this was how my music looked like. I troubleshooted every way I could think of, from a fix permissions, to a full wipe, formating my sdcard, replacing the music.apk with the AOSP one, using a market music app, running logcat when music ran to see what was wrong, using media scanner from dev tools but NOTHING seemed to fix it. I ended up going to a different rom but whenever I try out the newer nightly's everything works as it should. No idea about what really happened, so I can't offer you any advice. Also, I lost album art and the album name as well as the artist.

Well, thanks anyway for your post.
Possibly it got fixed in the new nightlies?
I think I'll have to wait until the next stable is out, but I personally doubt it will fix the problem.

Any other suggestions how to fix it?

I've been having the same problem as described above with the artist category being shown as "Unknown artist" for the majority of my music. It is very odd. I reloaded a bunch of my music after doing an sdcard wipe and while MOST of the music still showed up as "Unknown artist", some of the music did show properly...however I later noticed that the music that was showing after the wipe started showing again as "Unknown artist". Very strange.

Has anyone found a workaround for this? TIA

I found a workaround on another thread. http://forum.cyanoge...-now-w-cm6-rc1/
This is the workaround

settings->applications->manage applications; hit the 'all' tab, find 'media storage' clear data

then use the Dev Tools app and tap 'media scanner' and be patient.

I tried the suggestion and it worked, for a few days, I noticed it go back to "Unknown Artist" after a couple of days.

I am interested in turning my Magic into a dedicated media player once I upgrade my phone, in the coming month and would like to find a fix.

Thanks for the workaround, but it does not work very well for me.
Only two artists are now correctly displayed.

I'm surprised only very few people got this issue.

I have this issue too!  And since CM6RC1!

I have ~3500 WMAs that exhibit the issue.  On my wife's phone running 5.0.8, they're all fine...on my phone running CM6, everything shows up as unknown artist.  I have the nightly from the 27th and the issue is still there.

Attached is a logcat of what happens when I clear the media storage and force a search in Devtools...

EDIT: Also attached is a PDF with screenshots and a description of the problem...
