All I wanna say is, before you guys complain how slow CM6 is, try 6.1(A.k.a Nightlies). I hated 6.0 stable and with 6.1 I got a lot snappier phone and learned a lot of new methods to make my phone faster. OTA is definitely simpler but I been running the same nightly for almost a week now and after flashing a lot of nightlies, I developed a method and am improving on this method. Also, CM has the advantage of less bloatware and more features over the 2.2 OTA. So definitely give the Nightlies a try before you go back to stock, the people here work hard on their ROM and I love them for it.

I agree.  The nightly builds are much snappier than 6.0, especially with the 34.x kernels.

I laugh everytime I see the complaints of people running CM6 or Nightlies with all "extras" enabled. Steve has said since day that JIT and Swap will both kill CM6. I run nightly 194 with it's stock kernal, No setcpu, no swap, pre-loaded ADW Launcher, compcache off, JIT off, Dithering disabled, home locked in memory, messaging locked in memory and VM heapo size 12mb and this phone FLIES!!!

It's snappy, no lags, quick to download from market, internet is fast, no problems connecting to WiFi or 3g, I listen XM Radio with it and phone rings right through, I play 3d games with no issues or lags, 3d gallery even works fine and fast!

I used to try OC'd kernals, setCPU and all the other nonsense and was about fed up as well, until one day I just thought, "I wonder what would happen if I just took all of this stuff off?" I took it ALL off and was blown away! I don't even run apps2SD anymore or FireRat's scripts!!!

MT3G 1.2 with nightly 194, Tiny Gapps and everything I want to downlaod from the Market, runs flawlessly!

And I laugh every time someone with a device that has extra RAM tries to tell those with very limited RAM that swap doesn't work well on CM6.  The original MT3G does, indeed, run well with stock CM6, until you try to open two memory-intensive apps simultaneously.

I must admit, I'm getting a bit fed up myself with the tinkering required to make this outdated hardware run all the latest features.  My current procedure for flashing a new rom is flash the rom, flash the kernel, flash swap, flash radio prioritizer, remove ADW, replace 3D gallery with 2D, remove sundry other apks, fix hxspa setting.  I think I'll be having a MTHD as soon as it appears.  As regards swap, I think we need two roms, one for the 32A devices and one for the 32Bs with swap already enabled with a 34.x kernel.

How do you switch the Gallery back to 2D? The pokiness of the 3D Gallery is driving me CRAZY!

1. Yes.
2. Flash Pershoot's 34.6 or 34.7 kernel.

Thanks Jeff and Invisiblewave. Do we know that flashing he kernel will be allowed?

I looked under Stable and Experimental, but I don't see where the Nightly builds are. Where can I find the Nightlies for the Magic?

Nevermind, a little more digging and I found it. To be clear: the Dream_Sapphire nightly ROMs work on the Magic, right?

By far the easiest way to replace the gallery is to install Android Commander on your desktop.  From there you just delete the apk and copy the other one in, then reboot.  Alternatively, follow the wiki instructions and fumble around with all the meaningless Linux commands.

No idea what your kernel question means.

I started all of this with a G1! When I was able to get the Mt3G 1.2 running so well, I went back and tried everything (with the exception of apps2sd) on the G1 and it worked just as well for about 2 weeks. (Until I sold it)

i'm not going to unroot, but if a new version of CM is made based on the official rom that'd be amazing. I'd switch to that in a heart beat

Nightly 199 and 198 didn't fly, but 197 took wing. Compared to 6.0 it's like I have a new phone. The gallery is still slow (not as bad but still slow), so I'll probably replace it with the 2D version.

Ok, I downloaded 194 now.. the only difference with you is I can't live without Launcherpro. So, do I still keep the pre-loaded ADW or remove it?

Try it with ADW removed and see if it helps. If you prefer LP it definately won't hurt to have the ADW apk removed, might even help. I made the switch to the stock ADW, but I did like LauncherPro early on in CM6.

I did this and there's no ADW now but keep getting FC's like every minute with LauncherPro. I'm really mad with this FC's.. If I didn't had these FC's, the phone would be awesome!

10/18/2010 - minor update, APN list updated to match from CM6, WIFI should be working out of the box now.

SEPERATE PACKAGES FOR MYTOUCH AND G1/Dream Bluetooth should work for everyone, g1 users please test.

A FULL WIPE IS REQUIRED. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO SO WITH FASTBOOT APPLY BELOW ZIP BEFORE FLASHING THE ROM, IF YOU BOOTLOOP, WIPE AGAIN AND REPEAT, IT'S NOT MY ROM, IT'S YOUR PHONE.
wipe /data /cache /system
mirror

T-Mobile USA 32B Froyo FRG83 (recommended for mt3g, should work with G1 just fine)

No Radio or SPL change required, if you are running CM6 and want to test it out, just nandroid, WIPE and flash away.

What you will get:

T-Mobile applications, latest gapps etc.. HSDPA ril, ROOT, Busybox, USB Tethering (as well as wifi tethering support with the usual app)

Bluetooth (at least on my MT3G)
WIFI

Firerat's APPS2EXT will work fine for you G1 users, as well as swap. Looking into possible issues with apps2ext

and more...

What you won't get:

JIT - It is off by default and breaks several of the apps in the tmobile package. This sucker is pretty fast without it.

ADW - Launcher2 is default, live with it.

User interface tweaks/ CM Settings

Live Wallpapers

Spare Parts (search the market)

And others...

32A - Flash Stable CM6 bvrook kernel or latest
Mytouch 1.2/Fender LE Current CM6 Kernels contain zinx verituse's patches so no kernel change is required.

I'm a total CM fanboy, and eagerly await 6.1, but T-Mobile and Google have impressed me with this.

MYTOUCH 32B 32A(Kernel required) 1.2/Fender LE

-or-
TMUS-32B-Froyo-CMRemix - Mediafire

G1/Dream
TMUS-G1-Froyo-CMRemix - SendSpace
-or-
TMUS-G1-Froyo-CMRemix - Mediafire

If you receive an OTA message please post a logcat.

CM6 Kernels, no new radio requirement, no new spl requirement (DangerSPL or equivalent required for G1) Original T-Mo/Google Libs/Framework, cm6 libs and shell still intact.

and yes i go by a different name at the xda forum.

When using a version of this earlier today i was actually prompted for the real update (Part 1 of 2) so if that happens let me know so i can look further into disabling OTA updates. if you receive this message, please restore nandroid or reflash the rom over itself, i do not recommend updating as universal androot does not work and there seems to be a new spl that locks you down as well. If anyone knows how to disable the OTA updates please let me know, i did some rudimentary research and hope what i have already done is sufficient

MODS:

This is based mostly off of CM6 as the official updated kernel requires the new radio/spl combo, this is CM6 related, and uses the current stable CM6 kernel, so it seems proper for this thread to be here, but if this should be moved to general, or the hacks and mods section let me know and i can delete and repost accordingly.

Have you tried reflashing it? WiFi is one of the more common problems I've had that are usually solved by reflash.

Flash the latest pershoot kernel and it should work.

if not i have wifi working now with THIS kernel and i highly recommend it:

i haven't installed this but i have downloaded it. quick question: are firerat's swap & apps2sd already installed when the ROM is installed? or would I have to run the scripts again via terminal to activate them?
