Am currently planning to start a project of porting over the U8150 to CM6.

Update (15-02-11)

-- Finally managed to port over ClockworkMod recovery, now making the U8150 ROM Manager compatible

[snip]

Yea, looks a little messy, I'll try fix up the resolution/size when i get time

-- Also got CyanogenMod 7 Gingerbread compiled, up and running on the U8150, (Will post screenshots)
Currently its the first build iv done on the U8150

[snip]

A lot of things don't work (wifi, auto rotation, sound...), but am building up on fixing those, once I make a practically useable build, i'll post up the ROM for tryouts

NOTE: Yet to test out Gingerbread's performance on the U8150, (~ on making a CM6 (Froyo) port instead)

OMG! The last thing I was expecting was CM7 on the U8150; I thought I would be lucky if someone ported CM6 to this phone! I guess I have once again underestimated the power of the Internet and the fantastic developers on it. Posted Image You, my friend, have just earned yourself the "Awesome Developer Who Cares About People Who Can't Afford Fancy Android Phones" award. Posted Image

Sign me up for the early beta testers list as soon as you get this usable (since, *gasp*, I actually need to use my phone as a phone [crazy idea, right? Posted Image]).

BTW, n00b question Posted Image : will this only work for one carrier, or will it work on any carrier (I'm on T-Mobile USA)?

Anyway, keep up the great work! I'm really looking forward to your next update! Posted Image

(P.S. If you need any help, feel free to PM me! Posted Image)

Any updates ErVidic? I'm sure you're busy with other things (life, for instance Posted Image), but it doesn't hurt to ask!

Yeah, 'right now' school's bogging me down, so i got little time to edit -> make builds -> flash, and test them on the phone over and over.
Anyways, here's an update;

Update (26-02-11)

Someone mentioned:

Well they were both right (...in some way) and wrong;

-------------------------------------------------------
To get all those things working:

You'd need the source files for wifi, radio, sounds etc that Huawei made specifically for the U8150 (although some are shared amoung other Huawei android phones) and compile them with the andorid source code to make a working ROM.
:: try contacting Huawei for them <_<

or

(ugly way) 'Borrow' them (when already compiled) from a working U8150 Froyo ROM and hope they work with the Gingerbread ROM

OR

Kind of try make them yourself by studing the way part xyz works and use a mixure of generic sources + your own

Enough on that.

-------------------------------------------------------

So since CM7 is still in beta, and CM6 is... well currently stable and more feature full, we should start off with CM6 don't you think?

Did a few quick builds of CM6 and got most of everything working except:
WIFI (this i can fix this with time) & most important of all Telephony (Phone Networking etc etc) ()
+ a few small things here and there
CM6 also was running as fast as the stock Froyo that came with the phone (big yay )

BUT for 'now', like i said, things are going slowwww.
Once i get out of this, look forward for some type of release. ;)

NOTE: For those who want a working ClockworkMod Recovery check out this one (try Google Translate)

Hey mate we all need to thank you for your effort take it easy and if you have some time make your tricks to make this work

Hey Mate !! try your best to make CM6/CM7 work perfectly on our IDEOS device !!   This actually might be better than HTC Sense 2.2 port (unfortunately no DEV on XDA forums ever pursued it)  ....   also if you require Testing of any sort, I'll be here !!
I check XDA forums on regular basis and will start doing the same for CM too  !!!

Hope to hear some Good news soon !!
Cheers
God Bless ! =D

"Ready for beta testing" = "Give us a build to mess with" :P
Really though... Got a way of sharing what you've got so far? I'm sure we'd all appreciate it, working or not. ;)

I'm running their handiwork, got oc/uc & multitouch working together in Gingerbread finally in their latest "nightlies" but it broke a couple of other things unfortunately, it is getting better & closer to proper CM standard as time goes by, just no where near as fast as the officially supported phones
