Hey guys,

I was using the 2708 radio and just updated to the new radio by flashing with recovery and it all went smooth.  I guess my g1 moves a lil smoother than the 2708 but it could just be a placebo affect.

Heap 32 compcache OFF jit ON and no swap firerats a2sdext script

That has to be the worse setup I have ever seen on a G1. Turn JIT off and lower your Heap size to 16 at the very least.

Can i restore the full nandroid backup after flashing spl and the radio and then flash the kernel? is this possibile or restoring nandroid made with different spls is dangerous?

Alright

So tell me why is it the worst configuration? It seems to have worked really well for me for the past few days. Apps run smoothly, web browsing is fine, and a the games that I've played play just fine.

Please enlighten me...

I believe that what may happen is you will have a boot loop if your backup is not the patched version that ezterry supplied (correct me someone if I'm wrong, but that happened to me).

I was just asking if it's safe to restore and "old" nandroid backup on a new spl.

I know i've to patch the kernel :D

Thanks

This is by far the most effective upgrade you can get for your Magic. Everything else is just a minor tweak compared to the performance boost you'll get from the extra RAM.

Works great on the German Vodafone 32B. Thanks a lot.

I am using the 27.08 radio and want to try the newer one.  Can I just flash over the 2708 or do I need to wipe and start over?

Take a Nandroid/Bart backup in case something goes wrong.. but then just flash the zip I have on my xda post.

There have been reports of user settings being reset somehow.  not sure how that is possible without CustomMTD being used but that is what I hear.

In the case something is erased.. just restore the backup and you will be where you are now just with the newer radio.

does an nandroid backup/restore also affect the spl/radio etc?  I wanna try this on my G1, but don't want to have to restore the old radio, spl etc..afterwards.  Will the restore put the old ones back?

Hi guys,

I really want to install the new radio image and also benefit with the extra memory. I have a G1 with the danger spl (HBOOT-1.33.2005), but when I try:
>fastboot flash recovery hboot-1.33.0013d.img

I get the following error:
>sending 'recovery' (512 KB)... OKAY
>writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: image error(BootMagic check fail))

I also get the same error when I try to flash the radio.

Must I do something before I get to this step?

Thanks in advance!

That's a new one...
Can you enter fastboot mode and tell us all the information on the top of the screen (hboot version, radio version, s on/off status?

fastboot flash recovery hboot-1.33.0013d.img

its flash hboot hboot-1.33.0013d.img or flash recovery recovery.img if you try to flash that

its a bit weird to write the hboot on the recovery partition

Did I do something wrong? When I flash the 1.33.2009 zipfile and reboot, then it puts up the mytouch splash screen, and then it reboots again, and goes to load Cyanogen just like normal. I don't think the SPL is 'sticking' ... how can I check???

View Postezterry, on 11 November 2010 - 11:44 PM, said:

I recommend you flash as per my post with fastboot.. you just need to do something easy first :)

Download update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2009-signed.zip md5: 6FE91DDD2AC591F8EE838CEA3E5F84B0

Install from recovery.. once it flashes reboot (you will return to recovery)
Just in case delete the 'update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2009-signed.zip' file from your SD Card (flashing SPLs by accident is not a good idea)

Then you can install with the fastboot instructions on this thread to install the radio+spl.  Once the radio+SPL are installed you can flash the patched CM6.1-rc1 update.zip on the op post (there is a link back here in the other thread if you get lost)

Note this is what I consider the safest way not the only way.

I asked around in the IRC channel, (thanks for your help guys), and it seems like I need to have a goldcard to begin all this? in my HBOOT I read the following:

SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0006 (SAPP30000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.261
MAY 27 2009, 19:06:41

Any further assistance would be appreciated!!

Thanks for the quick responses Roalex and Ezterry, its was indeed a typo.

You shouldn't need a goldcard, you should be able to just flash an engineering spl from recovery then from the engineering spl flash the hboot from fastboot.

Alternatively, and much easier for a mt3g or magic 32b you could flash the hboot .0013 or .0013d from recovery, I posted some recovery zips in one of the many threads  on this subject as well as many other users.

I should be able to but I am unable to, I'll search for one of those other posts I guess.

Here's what you need:

== Flashing From a Stock SPL ==

* Magic 32b Users: if you have a 2.x radio with a 1.33.00xx SPL other than 1.33.0013/1.33.0013d please see This Post
